3 fills so far, little restriction, slow weight loss - super frustrated

Recommended Posts

I was banded in June of this year. My starting weight was 235 lbs. To date, I have had 3 fills (6 cc's in a 10 cc band) and have very little restriction. Not too many foods give me a hard time where most of my banded friends complain that they can hardly eat anything without it gutting stuck (bread, rice, Pasta, beef, chicken). So far, the only things that have given me a problem are fresh white bread, Peanut Butter, chicken breasts, and raw celery. Everything else is pretty much fair game. I DO have to chew my food VERY thoroughly and take smaller bites, but I can still eat a regularly portioned meal (on a dinner plate). All of my other banded friends are eating the amount of food on a salad plate or less! When I get my fills, it seems as though I am restricted for about 3-5 days and then I am right back to being able to eat a dinner plate portion of food within about a week. If I try to cut back on my portions, I get SOOO hungry between meals (generally within 1-2 hours) and get light-headed and get headaches. Since my surgery, I have lost 20 lbs. and that's it. I can FEEL and SEE a difference in my clothes, and I do have more energy, but I am just SOOO FRUSTRATED! I want to find my "sweet spot", too! My next appt. is on 11/1/10. Hopefully that fill will bring me closer to where I want to be. Wish me luck!

I am in the same situation. I've had two fills and I'm at 7cc. I have little restriction and can still eat a lot!! I try not to, but I too am still hungry. I am making another appointment today and hopfully my next go around will be the one!! I've only lost 22 lbs and it's been almost four months. I understand your frustration. Good luck to you.

I have an 11 cc band and my surgery was August 18, 2010. I too have only lost about 16 pounds and I have had two fills and am still so hungry that I could basically eat almost as much as I used to. I go for my next fill on November 22, so hopefully I will feel some more restriction then. I understand your frustration though. I try to watch what I am eating, but sometimes it is so hard..... Keep me posted about your next fill. I would really like to know how it goes. Good Luck!

Hello, 2 fills, and I feel little restriction as well!

I have lost 18 lbs since being banded 8.20.10.

My plan is to go back strictly to shakes and be more faithful to my work outs.

The thing is I shouldn't be this hungry right?

good luck!

I feel your pain! Been having the same struggle.. However, I just got a fill last week that seems to be helping... It was my 4th fill.. so.. I am guessing I needed to get to this level.

I just hope it stays..... But just know you are not alone!

I have been banded since May 13 and have lost 55.5 pounds. I went from 249 to 194. I found that the best thing for me was exercise. I have had 3 fills so far, my fourth one is next week. Are you keep track of calories? I have 7cc in a 10cc band. I can still eat a decent amount of food, however certain things do get stuck (most bread, most chicken unless it's tender, some green veggies). I hope that your weight loss picks up, but at least you're down 20 pounds! I know I wouldn't be down 55.5 pounds without my band! Hang in there!

I was banded on July 30th and have had 2 fills so far, I am at 6cc's in a 10 cc band...I have a little restriction but not where I need to be . I can still easily eat a full plate of food with no problems. I have never gotten stuck or sick and dont want to but it is frustrating to feel like your doing this by yourself and not much help from the band yet. I am just exercising, sticking to the band rules as much as I can and eating healthy. I have lost 36lbs since surgery. My 3rd fill is still a month away...on nov 30th. my doctor only gives them every 6 weeks...

I was banded in April and was filled to 6cc's eventually. I finally noticed a difference! I was doing great when I suddenly had a slip. The band went back into place without additional surgery. Now, I am at a 6.1 and I no longer feel any restriction. I have gained 16 lbs. So, has anyone else experienced a slip? Is there any hope that I will get back to my sweet spot or is it over. Feeling discouraged.....

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
