I have lost motivation

Recommended Posts

I was banded in Jan 09 and was always a slow loser and I am ok with that. I lost about 50 lbs and sustained that weight for a long time. I was happy to be under 200! Then we moved to another state for my husbands job and since then (may 2010) I have gained 15 lbs and back over 200 again! I am in need of a fill but the closest doctor is 70 miles away and will only see me on Mondays. I only get Friday/Saturdays off from work so I never went to see the new doctor.

I am upset with myself for gaining weight and I have no motivation anymore. I go to the gym 4-5 times a week and eat salads for lunch everyday like a good girl but the weight is slowing creeping up still! I have my 10 year reunion coming up next summer and I need some support. Any ideas to get me back on the wagon?!

I think you need to be straight with yourself about why you aren't going out of your way to see that fill doctor. Yes-- it's a pain-in-the-arse to take an extra day off to do it, but if you want this thing to work, you're going to have to find a way.

It's easy (for us all-- me included) to sit here and feel badly that things haven't gone the way we wanted them too, but only we can find that little spark inside that motivates us. Maybe start to write a letter to yourself... why did you get a band in the first place? Why do you want to be under 200? How did you feel before vs how you felt when you lost that 50 pounds? Go look at the before/after pictures thread in the "sticky" section of this forum.

Your motivation will have to come from YOU for it to be lasting. Mine will have to come from me. We have to kick our own butts, so to speak.

You can have lap band success- you just have to want it badly enough to do the work, even though it isn't easy or convenient.

You can even write it out here... why DO you want this???

I'm of the opinion that motivation isn't required. We do a bazillion things every single day that we aren't motivated to do. We brush our teeth. We feed the dog. We empty the litterbox. We go to work.

We do these things because we have to.

I consider eating and exercising in a way that promotes weight loss (or maintenance, farther down the road) to be things I have to do, as well.

If I relied on motivation, most days I'd find plenty of reasons not to do either.

Waiting for motivation is not the answer. Getting your band properly adjusted and committing to make the changes you need to make, regardless of how you feel about them is the answer.

Just do it.

I love this. I have lost motivation as well. I have gained 12 lb back and keep making excuesses. It sounds like you may be doing the same. I guess I should be looking in the mirror saying this, but she is right you just HAVE to do it. I don't want to go to work everyday, but I do because I have to. That's how things need to be. Just remember how much work you had to go through to get the band. Ugh, that alone is enough to work for the weight loss. I hope you find your motivation. As I hope I find mine. If you find yours please contact me and help me out too... lol =0)

I'm feeling the same way. I was suppose to get a fill over a month ago, but my appt. was cancelled at the last minute by the doctor's office. When I tried to reschedule, I could not get in for another month, at least. I have gained but about 3 or 4 pounds, but I know if I don't do something soon, it will only get worse. I am finally going for a fill this thursday. I'm hoping it will help me kickstart me on my way again. I've lost 55 lbs and need to lose another 50. Let's get motivated together. Start by getting a fill and see if that helps. Good luck!

I hear everyone! I was banded April '09 and dropped from 259 to 169. Then I got a TT and got unfilled quite a bit. Ever since then I can't get back on track. I ate all sorts of crap that I couldn't before and I did get refilled but had to get unfilled 2x because I couldn't get anything down at all. Since then I've been scared to go back to get a fill even though I know I need one. Being overfilled sucks big time! So, since my TT I'm up THIRTY lbs!!! Been eating all sorts of slider foods and I know it's my fault. I had been jogging but couldn't do any sort of exercise for 8 weeks after the TT so I also got off the exercise I was doing so well on. I know I should have been back at the surgeon's a long time ago but I just hate the guilt trip about having put on weight. I'm so dejected. Today for the first time I weighed back over 200 lbs and it makes me want to cry.

(Yeah, I know my ticker is wrong. Forgot the password and can't change it. And, quite honestly, it would be depressing to do so)

Plus, I donated all my bigger clothes and have had to go back and buy more because I'm out of the 12's and back into the 16's. Seems hopeless really. I'm so down.

What happened yeaterday is in the past. I haven't weighed under 200 in many many years and am so close now so I can only imagine how you're feeling. Don't give up! There are many of us who look up to the bandsters like you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
