Check the nutritional info on teh Special K. I think I looked at them in the supermarket and they were pretty high in sugar and carbs. Try the Syntha 6 from GNC.< /p>

If you're looking for a different taste you can try Isopure from GNC.

I like to use Premier Protein that I get from Cost Co, they are low carb, low fat and have 30gms of Protein per shake.

I wouldn't recommend Special K Protein shakes. You can get better quality protein without the sugar and carbs that will help you in the long run.

Now is not the time to short-change your body with cheap imitations.

I'v tried several Protein Shakes including the Isopure and they are disgusting. The Special K ones are the only ones I've found that I don't have to choke down. I don't think Special K shakes are "cheap imitations", they are only 190 calories and yes only 10gm Protein but shouldn't be your daily staple food anyway. Bottom line you have to find the one that is right for you. No one can or should drink things they don't like.

I agree that people shouldn't have to drink/eat things they don't like, but ya know, I don't particularly like fruit, but I eat it because I know I have to in order to keep the commitment I made to myself when I decided to be banded. There are a lot of foods I'm learning to like simply because I know my body needs it to be healthy.

Good luck in your Quest to find Health and Happiness!

angieboyd....

I have been drinking Bariactric Advantage. It came from the Dr with Vitamins and Calcium. I was never hungry, and it worked well for me. I had the choc and vanilla powder and was able to mix up a variety of tasty shakes.

Read the threads in here. There are SOOO many things you can do with a Protein shake to make it taste great. I've fallen "in love" with the Syntha 6 shake, but I bought a lot of the Medifast shakes that I need to get rid of so I sexy them up with bananas or cinnamon or strawberries or PB2 (gotta love that stuff). Be creative. Make it fun. lol

Did you know one of the main reasons people don't stay on diets is because they force themselves to eat what they don't like. Learning to eat right is not eating things you don't like, its about finding things that are healthy that you do like.

Being banded isn't a diet- It's a lifestyle.

No one is forcing anyone to drink a Protein shake they don't like. I was merely stating that when I decided to have lap band surgery, I made the commitment to myself to become a healthier me- and that meant making some changes including learning to like some foods I didn't like before. I don't particularly like to exercise either, but I made that commitment to myself and I do it everyday.

There are so many options out there for protein- it doesn't matter how you get it, as long as you're getting the right amount.

I was wondering with the syntac nector powder. How much Water do you put to how much power. I had a packet of powder and did 6 oz of water and then ice and it tasted so watered down. I think it could be good if I have the right ratio.

I use a shaker bottle that I believe holds about 8 ounces of skim milk, and I've had no sense of it seeming too thin. The chocolate truffle and the caribbean cooler are both great. The cherry---not so much.

Thanks everyone for your input! I do agree that those special K one's are not as hard to get down. I do believe that I was given a packet of that sythac's nectar one when I went to see my dietician, however I think I made it wrong, lol it exploded when I went to shake it up! :) what can i say I am not the smartest one of the bunch! lol Does anyone know where I can get some samples? Oh and NJSizzla, what is PB2 ?

Oh and NJSizzla, what is PB2 ?

PB2 is a subsitute for Peanut Butter. Its made from a process where they take real peanuts, roast them, then press them into a powder. This eliminates all the fat and oil and bad stuff. You can add it to your food as a powder or add Water (or milk or almond milk) to it to turn it into Peanut Butter and spread it. Its a great alternative to peanut butter in terms of caloriies and since it's actually peanuts, you get all the flavor. Just one more great thing I learned right here. I made a phenomenal shake with it today. And I am making a spicy Thai curry with it tomorrow for my chicken. And my wife and kids will eat it too. :)

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
