Sept. 2010 Bandsters !!!

Recommended Posts

Good you are going to contact your dietician. That is exactly the symptons I had. My dietician told me I needed to eat a bit more, and if I added any Snacks to ensure they had at least 15 G of Protein. That really did help with my exhaustion level.

Thanks for the insight. I feel fine otherwise, but the exhaustion is keeping me from exercising, etc. I want to be able to be up, doing things without feeling like i'm going to pass out!

Went for first fill yesterday 10/6 didnt go so well.. Dr couldnt get in port . Going back monday to have it done under floro so hoping that goes well . All in all its been a interesting month ive succeded ive failed and ive laffed and ive cried

But whats important is im still doing it , im facing it im not backing down . With a empty band one month 5 days later im down 21lbs and im darn happy with that lol i worked hard for it .

 Good job september bandsters

Awesome Job! Sorry the fill didn't go well, but you'll get it soon. I think you hit the nail on the head with all the emotions! We're all right there with ya! It is a real roller coaster, but sooooo worth it! Keep up the great attitude. That's over half the battle!

:thumbup:Hi, I was banded September 28th, and I am on full liquid for another week. I was eating 1/2 cup every 2-3 hours until today when I was permitted to have 1 cup every 2-3 hours. The question I have is does anyone feel beyond exhausted, and how are you dealing with it? I went back to work the Friday after surgery, but throughout the day I have that, I'm so exhausted I'm drunk feeling. I can barely make it past 9 pm before I fall asleep. I'm making sure I get 80 grams of Protein a day and am not really hungry throughout the day. I've also lost 11 pounds since the 28th. I'm just not sure what to do about the horrible lightheadedness and exhaustion. I'm going to call my dietition tomorrow, but I'd love to hear any advice anyone else might have. Thanks so much!

I was banded 9/22 (about a week before you) and a week ago, I was in the same boat as you! I was so tired I could barely walk from the bedroom to the living room without needing a nap. Every day, it gets better! Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids. It's hard at first, but you have to concentrate on it and get them in. Also, getting as much protein as you possibly can will help with the exhaustion. Good Luck to you!!!

Well my fellow September bandsters, I think I could use a little support.

In Canada our Thanksgiving is this weekend and I am going to my parent's house for dinner.< /p>

My anxiety is increasing for two reasons:

1. this will be the first family dinner since I have had my band. I want to be careful, but not draw unnessesary attention to myself.

2. I will have to confront the two people that have so been against the surgery and who I have not told that I have done.

How do I ensure that I enjoy my dinner and not draw the nasty comments from my sister and brother-in-law?

I have tried on numerous occasions to explain that the band is not the easy way out, I still need to do all of the work. But they still insist on talking about all of people who died from this procedure.

My first instinct is just to flat out say that I do not want to talk about is right now, but I know that will just change the tone for the rest of the evening.

Oh and to make matters worse I had my first fill on thursday. I felt great all day yesterday, but today I woke up feeling tight and have not been able to get rid of this feeling. I am taking it easy and eating liquids today, but dinner is at 6.

What to do?

What to do?

Thanks everyone

So sorry that you are dealing with this.

First, you need to always remember that you do not have to let people treat you badly, even if they are family. They have no right to do it, and you aren't a trouble maker or a mean person if you REFUSE to let them do it. Politely but firmly stand up for yourself, and remember, if the tone is changed for the night-- it is their doing, not yours.

It sounds like you've done all of the explaining that you can do. If you still get nasty comments, tell them it is a decision made, an action completed, and that they can see for themselves that you did not, in fact, die from the procedure (all the better if you say this as a joke). And then, make it clear that any other negative discussions are closed. "You've made your feelings clear, and so have I. I appreciate your concern, but this is not a topic that's up for debate anymore. So, what's going on in your life, mom?"

I like it Zen!!! excellent advice.

First off and this is likely to be not something you want to do, but I personally would love to see the information about a lot of people dying from the lap band. tell them you have a friend that's very interested in the topic and give them my email. 1.lisa.king@gmail. i really don't believe it, but if it is true I'd be intrestedl

2. Its possible you are tight because you are stressed, I've read that before - also, I've seen docs that after a fill want you to do liquids for a day cause you are swollen and potential for irritation, You could try to do just broth and teas etc. for a meal and then up it to protin shake and yogurt for a meal, and then softer food- just to ease in.

3. I think about thanks giving a lot. My family doesn't know also. I don't know what the canada meal looks like- but here we always have turkey, which is doable. - so my family aren't big on salad at thanksgiving, but I said that I was going to make a green salad, and bring my own dressing, I believe a plate can look pretty full with a fluffy salad, and turkey, and maybe a bit of carbs, and just say yeah I'm on a diet. end of story. if the people that are against it notice and say something I like zens idea, or just like repeat yourself. you could also volunteer to bring some fruit salad, or a low cal desert- My family does not make good food choices, especially on the holidays, so anything besides they turkey that is not loaded with fat I will have to bring.

well we are all entering holiday season- cheers,

good luck. I just went too a birthday party and sucked on a pepperonis or two and spit them out- ended up not getting any dinner till 6:30 was about to pass out, I should have brought a Protein Shake but again no one there knows.

2.

I was banded the same day and I feel the same way. I am also getting enough protein but still feel very tired. I am not back to work yet as I have to do heavy lifting but I can't get through the day without a nap. I am hoping my body will adjust to the new way of eating. ( Or in our case drinking.)

on the topic of being super weak and tired. One thing to know is that as you add more food it will get better. I don't know where you all are on your post op- Protein is an important start- but there are other things that can make you feel tired too. some Protein Drinks are like only protein, and not all the rest. are you sure about your amount of Iron, and your amount of b and c and Calcium? Also your calories, if you are on something other then food right now make sure you are getting at least 1200 calories a day. This is actually very low, and maybe up it a bit, especially if you are over 220 lbs- maybe like 17000.

these are just some ideas.

good luck, it will get better as you add food.

Hi everyone!! Had to play catch up. There was another birthday party at work yesterday, and I did not have any. Yeah. I did too much on Friday and tore open my incision and it bled for several hours, and when I woke up yesterday there was blood all over my PJs. I think my clothes had been rubbing on it, so I wore bagging pants to work yesterday. I know about the nasty comments, when I went out to a restaurant with a supposed friend, she said (in front of everyone) dont take her order she doesn't need to eat anything. I just said that was not very nice and let it go.

For busywildmom I am worried about the holidays as well. Maybe you could scan the meal, and find something you could eat such as the turkey that was mentioned, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes. That would be enough to fill you up. Drink lots of liquids. If you filled up on soft foods, it might not even look like you are dieting, and maybe no one will make any comments.

For LisaA your advice is spot on. I have a luncheon the day after I hope is my first fill, and that supposed friend will be there. It is difficult to brush off nasty comments, but I think once they see we are getting healthy and their sabotague is not working, they might leave us alone. This girl at work has stopped asking me if I want cake or ice cream (been back at work 4 days- and there was 3 parties).

Adding more Protein and food did help with my exhaustion. I am eating around 1300-1400 calories a day now.

Sooo. Thanksgiving dinner went well. Yay! and I even had to sit right beside my sister at dinner! thank goodness my family tends to make good food choices. I still was able to have a bit of everything, just about 1-2 tablespoons of each. She did keep looking at my plate but she did keep her big mouth shut. I am hoping that I am showing her by example that my choices are because I love my body and I am not depriving anything. While everyone was having seconds I just quietly excused myself and started to cleanup in the kitchen. I was close so was able to still be a part of the conversation. The only comments came from my dad and he was trying to be encouraging but his words were not the best choices. But I understood what he was trying to say.

I will take everything as it comes and all the while feeling the satisfaction that I am in more control of my obesity disease with my band as a tool to my success.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
