I guess I will re-introduce myself.

I am Brian. I live in Los Angeles / Santa Clarita, California. I work in the Motion Picture Industry. I was REALIZE Banded on Wednesday Sept the 8th, 2010 by Dr. Michael Feiz. Right now I am a little over 3 weeks Post Op. So far I am down 20 lbs since the 8th. I am feeling 100 % back to normal except that I have felt Restriction a few times and I have actually thrown up about 2 times.

Right now I am on Mushy / Soft Foods stage. So far so good. I got Banded because I was sick and tired of being overweight and the price it has caused me in terms of self confidence and my social life. I have been overweight my entire life and I am so glad I decided to take action and get the Band.

Hi Des !

Well I am just continuing on our big Sept 2010 Bandster Support Group from the Pre-Op Forum. Thanks for the complement. As for eating out... hopefully it will be uneventful and a lot more pleasant then I have had. :(:scared2::) I guess it is all a learning experience for all of us as we continue our new Bandster Life ! I hope you are doing well and feeling well too.

GUYS,

I hope you all don't mind my jumping into this thread because I am not a 2010 bander. However, I was banded in September 2009 and am now 120lbs down.

I just wanted to post this because I know you will alll be looking forward to losing the weight. It has changed my life and is the best thing I ever did.

Good luck in the coming year. Stay strong and enjoy all the new confidence you will develop. This is the start of your new life:smile2::smile2:

Hi Fran !

I just cut & pasted this post from Cathy in Texas.

Go to www. tickerfactory. com

Flip through the many pages of ticker rulers.

Once you find one you like, select the radio button to the left.

Press Next

Select a ticker marker that will move across the top of your banner, by marking the radio button to the left.

Press Next

Enter a password/pin in the box

Select the Public data radio button

Choose if you want to track your weight change, weight or waist.

Enter your target weight

Enter your current weight

Enter todays date

Press Next

If you like the ticker that you have created, then highlight and copy the bbcode (first box).

Now go back into Lap Band Talk

sign in

Click on "User CP" near the top left (under the pictures).

Click "Edit Signature" (3rd section down left column)

A little box will pop up like the ones do when we post.

Type a little message in the box. (mine says when I started, when I was approved and surgery date).

Once you have something typed then skip down a few spaces(by pressing the enter button), then paste the bbcode in that same box.

Now without pressing any other options, hit the Preview Signature button at the bottom.

If you like what you see, then press the Save Signature button.

It's done.

Before you leave the ticker website, there is a blue hyperlink that states, "IMPORTANT: To update your ticker, click on it or bookmark this web address:"

Click and Save this page in your favorites.

When you want to update your weight loss, go find the link in your favorites, enter your password and press enter. Then update your new figures. Press the next button. Your done.

You won't have to cut or paste anything else. By updating with the password/pin, tickerfactory will automatically update the changes on your signature page.

Hope that helped.

hey everyone :smile2:

down 10lbs so far and i was banded 9/27 :(

super excited but i know this journey may get tough. i went to the movies today and almost broke. the smell of the popcorn and my lack of enthusiasm for my Protein shakes/sugar free jello/pops/broth did not mix well.

i asked if i could smell the popcorn. i figured if i couldn't much on the stuff i could at least get a good whiff of it.

sad isn't it?

but alas, i hunkered down and took a few sips of Water to help the craving pass along and found myself more interested in the previews than the popcorn within minutes.

i think that's what will be the hardest for me along the way; getting through the cravings.

here's a tip: try reading veganism books or vegetarian books along this journey. i noticed that when i went through my veggie phase [sadly it was just a phase ] i read up on the stuff and found it alot easier to not overeat and stay away from the unhealthy junk because i was reading information that explained what our bodies truly need and what various factors in our day to day lives [media, association, etc] make us feel we need. i hope to become a veggie again one day, but please don't think im trying to convert you. it really is informative. it's a bit more "aggressive" when it comes to shedding light on the facts of our nutritional needs. just a thought or suggestion for those willing to look into it.

good luck fellow Sept. bandsters!

:)

Thanks Brian for getting us started "on the other side" . I am a day behind you and have to say too: I am pretty much back to 100% other then not being able to lift anything heavy. I too can feel restrictions even though I have had no fill at surgery and no fill since surgery. I am still loosing weight so I am not sure if I should get a fill this Friday. I am scheduled for one, but I think I will at least postpone until next week. I have changed not only my eating habits but have also lost people along the way that I felt were negative and I will continue to do so; This journey has opened my eyes in many ways! Life is tooooooo short to be miserable or to have people around that are downers.... Time to live life to the fullest! Greetings from NC!

Hey Brian and other Sept. 2010 bandsters -- how exiting that we are actually into the post-op stage.

Mine was last Wed., 9-29 so just starting my 3rd day post-op, but I have a question. I am barely getting anything down -- an 8 oz glass of Water takes all day, a bit of applesauce with my crushed meds, a few sips of Tomato Soup. I'm okay with it -- not feeling hungry at all -- but I wonder how little is too little. I'm scared to end up in ER with dehydration. Is it okay these first few days; if so, I don't mind. But, if it's not normal to be taking in so little, I need to call the surgeon's office before it gets away from me. What do you think, anyone?

Thanks, Brian for starting this thread. Wish we could all sit down in person and chat -- all us banded people.

John from UK -- WOW! what an encouragement and it's so great to hear of people that had a lot to lose and did. So many docs tell their patients the band is only for people who want to lose around 75 lb. or so. That's not enough for me, so another 100+ lbs success story is just what I'm looking for.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts on my very minimal intake this early in the stage. Need to set my mind at ease.

Thanks!

Debbie

Hi everyone, I feel like I just graduated! It has not been an easy journey but so well worth it. I was banded on sept 7th and have not had a fill yet so basically i have been running on sheer will power. I am hoping in two weeks when I get a fill my body will be trained to pick up the signal of fullness. Thanks Brian for getting us together on the other side. Keep in touch sept banders!

it was like that for the first 4 days for me. just now am i able to drink at least 12 oz of the Protein shake that im supposed to be drinking 24 oz of a day[8oz 3x a day]. a big help for me was to sip on broth and eat Jello and take in some sugar free popsicles.

i got frightfully sick on the 4th day.on thursday i went to Target which was a huge mistake. i got all headachey and i felt weak so i pushed to sip on the Protein shakes more to try and get some source of nutrients. i also began taking my Vitamins and not overextending myself. i m beginning to feel a bit better and not so "out of it" and im going on my sixth day.

hope you feel better soon.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
