November Band for me

Recommended Posts

Had my EGD today...... got stuck four times, cause my veins wouldn't cooperate.... No sore throat, or pain besides the IV site.... I remember absolutely nothing from the actual procedure.. I remember the anesthesiologist giving me the sleepy juice like he called it, being wheeled to OR, putting mouth piece in and turning over on my side, then waking up about 10 min later....Hope surgery goes this well.....

I'm scheduled for Nov 22. Started 2-week pre-op liquid diet yesterday. I've been reading everyone's experience with their pre-op and wasn't looking forward to it. I have developed a determined mind-set that I will get through these 2 weeks without much drama. Yesterday's start wasn't the best, but I know what I did wrong to make it not so good. Instead of drinking my Breakfast and being done. I sipped on it for a couple of hours. Needless to say, it threw my whole appetite off and I felt unsatisfied all day. By lunch time I was ravenous, and dinner didn't had much satisfaction.

Today was much better, I did it differently and had my Breakfast shakes like I should have. I picked up a variety of broth flavors: chicken, beef, turkey, and vegetable (I really like the flavor of the vegetable broth). I will switch up and not have the same thing everyday. I bought a few low-fat broths - not good at all! It tasted like the chicken was dipped once to add flavor. My only concern with drinking broth is that they are high in sodium (over 900 mg).

I will check back in by end of week to let you know how the week went.

My paperwork was sent for approval to my insurance company today (11/09/10). I have BCBS of IL - Blue Advantage. Hope to here back before Friday! Anyone else in the Chicago area have any experience with this insurance? How quickly did they respond (with a yes, of course)!

I will weigh myself in a few days because the ticker below needs to be updated. A few days ago, my personal scale (not the one I weighed in on at the doctor's office) said I lost about 6lbs. I know I've lost more than that but don't know how much. I ordered a digital scale for weighing in after the surgery.

JaGo, good for you. This is a hard thing, the liquid part, however, everyone handles it differently, so just find a way that works for you. Good luck!

I was banded on Nov. 8th and while being worked on, they discovered a hiatal hernia and fixed that also. I am still sore but starting to do normal daily activities, except for picking up my 27 pound toddler. I have help for that for another week. I am starting to want something to eat but am hanging on. The nurse said it was due to the swelling going down. In 2 days, I can have Carnation Breakfast, yogurt, dairy, etc...and by the week of Thanksgiving, I can have the mushy foods. I have lost 7 pounds and didn't do much pre-op except for the recommended 3 days prior. It seems like everyone gets different instructions. I love reading about all your experiences, it helps. Take Care.

Hi All,

I was banded on 11/12 and doing good. I came back to work on 11/16 so it's been tough as of course our vendors have been bringing in lunch for the office to Celebrate Thanksgiving!

I think i had too much Soup yesterday so feeling some pain -maybe gas. During my surgery they discovered a lesion on my liver so just waiting to be scheduled for a MRI/CT Scan. Praying that all is well with that!

As far as liquid i have just been doing lots of Water with a Vitamin pack i got from costco.. pretty good just wish more than 2 flavors. Broths, egg drop Soup, sf popsicles,sf Jello and Protein drink. Haven't really been starving but seeing that Paula Deen pie in the work refrig is messing with my mind :blushing:

I was just banded this past Tuesday, November 30th. It's been a long time coming...and now that I'm in recovery, I'm looking forward to all of the changes coming my way! I'm glad to be here with you all and taking this journey together.

So Sorry all, I have been MIA. Things got crazy after my surgery and then I ended up with pneumonia for Christmas. But I am back on track now.

I just had my first fill today. Had 5 cc in band from surgery and she added 4.5 for total of 9.5 cc in band. I am on liquids for two days and then purees for two days. I am really hoping this will jump start my weight lost a little more as I have only lost 10 pounds since surgery. I have, however, lost two entire Jean size. I was in a 22 and now wearing an 18. They are a little tight but worth it!

I also start my next round of class today. I have just under 2 years to finish my degree. That will keep me busy in the evenings, so I really need to find time to work out. I already take the stairs at work, both up and down, and I am on the 5th floor. When I go shopping I always make sure I walk all the aisle and as fast as I can. This depends on other people in the store of course.

I set a New's Years' goal of working out at the gym in my club house at least 3 times a week. So far that isn't looking too good for this week. I am going to really try when I get home tonight though and before I sit down on the couch to start school work.

I hope everyone else is doing well. If has been awfully quiet in here lately. Remember that support is the biggest key to success!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
