Welcome to all newbies to the November thread!

BacktoBest- feel free to send me a private message if you'd like and we could buddy up :hurray: And congrats also on your little one!

Wow, some of you are gonna be doing 3 wks pre op diet? I start my 2 wk pre op on the 25th and already trying to get all the "junk" and off limits stuff outta my place to avoid temptation! Mine is a full liquid diet and I think I'm more nervous about it than the actual surgery :w00t:

For those of you wondering about medications... my surgeon told me that if it is the size of an M and M or smaller you shouldn't have to crush it or get liquid form. But I'd do what is comfortable for you. I'm gonna still talk to my pharmacist about some of my pills...

Has anyone looked into any chewable vitamins to take post op? I even have Flintstones on my list :grouphug:

Hey all,

Good luck for everyone who is doing the pre-op diet or is about to start. I would love to know how you are coping with it!! I'm very scared I will find it extremely hard to stick to for the two weeks especially because I will be on holiday so won't be very busy...

I don't start it until Nov 3rd so have a while yet! So let me know how you go!!!

Not too long now

I was supposed to get banded on October 25th but my insurance is making me wait till November 1st. I am excited about getting banded but I am also scared out of my mind. I go for my preop on the 19th and start my preop diet on the 22nd. if anyone has any advice on the liquid diet it would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to all the November Bandsters!

My day is the 10th. I could have done the 5th, but wanted to push it back because my husband has a 4 day weekend starting the 11th.

I have a 14 month old. I'm nervous because they say I'm not supposed to lift anything for 6 weeks. That's obviously impossible when you have a baby. How are you going to handle it? My baby will only sleep in her crib, so I'm going to try to get a ladder and see if she'll crawl in. I don't know how long I can go without picking her up. Is your little one crawling/walking? Let me know if you have any ideas.

I feel the same way about my 14 month old daughter. She's always been large, which doesn't bother me, but I know it's because I'm large and ate too much when I was pregant that she was over 9 pounds when she was born. Plus she's constantly eating. I don't know if this is a normal thing for babies, but she's as obsessed with food as I am! My son isn't like that, but he is obsessed with candy. I'm so glad that my kids are young enough that they wont really remember the fat me and unhealthy eating habits. By the way, how do you plan on managing an 11 month old post-op? I'm not quite sure how I'll manage not lifting her.

Hi everyone and congrats to all. I am a 24 year old Social worker who is a single mom of a very busy and active 2 year old. I started my journey in April of 2010, that's when i knew for sure that the band was something that I really wanted to get. I had to change my insurance around because what I was currently getting would not allow me to get the pysch visited needed in order to have surgery so once I changed that everything just went with a flow...I started my journey at 403 lbs now I weigh 388 and I am having my surgery on Nov. 11th at Hurley's hospital in flint mi. I picked my surgery date so I could get use to some of the rules like no swallowing down liquids or chew your food a freaking hundred times (lol I hate puree food) or the fact that you can't use straws and etc. I also wanted to make sure I could learn to incorporate exercise into my routine. I try to do it at least 3 times a week but lately it's only been twice. However i want to know that when i get the band that it is my tool and not my problem. I will do a 2 week liquid diet before surgery and a 2 week clear liquid after surgery. My surgeon said it's very important for me to follow my liquid diet so I can shrink the liver so he wont have to cut a sista open instead of just poking holes...so I am going to have to do the but I can to make sure I have no part in solids before surgery.lol...Enough of my story here is my journey...feel free to save me as a friend or a buddy! this journey will be long and hard but so worth it!

Seminar date: 6/9/10

I am to be Banded on November 1st! I am nervous, excited and impatient! I know what my main focus is and I am excited to get back in the gym with a purpose! I always went to the gym and would eat right to lose weight but I have had the plateau for over 10 years. I have been in and out of this site as well as incorporated information from other sites to ultimately change my decision to get Banded rather than get Gastric. I am sooooo happy with my decision, I just feel like it won't work for me then on the other hand I know this Band is fool proof. I don't have a love for food, I just love to feel full. I don't eat candy and I know I want to be a size 6 one day before I turn 40!lol!!!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
