Recommended Posts

Hey All! I'm so excited to find you all here! My surgery date is Oct. 5th and NONE of my co-workers has had the surgery or is really in favor of me having the surgery. My husband is totally in my corner on this... we are in this life together, but sometimes a girl needs a girlfriend! I'm hoping I can "spill my guts" about how this is really going to you folks.. I am

*excited

*scared

*overwhelmed

Thanks for listening...

upper GI? I didn't have to have that... at least I don't think I read anything about it. I've been poked, proded, examined, tested, but nothing down my throat!

We are scheduled for the same day!! Mine is 10am or thereabouts. I have learned that when people, especially girls, don't seem thrilled for you when you are doing something really good for yourself, and perhaps they don't have the courage, they are often jealous. If they are heavy they will feel intimidated by you once you begin to shed those pounds! Your husband's support is much more important and to go through it together is great. I understand though, that having someone, a fellow to be banded to talk to has more relevance. I am glad I found this forum. We are all in this together! You go girl and feel all that you are feeling. Above all...feel proud!

You can always go online. I found this site: Bariatric Advantage - Nutritional supplements, Vitamins, Proteins, and Help for Gastric Bypass, Distal, Lap Band, Realize, Stomaphyx and Duodenal Switch Surgery Patients

They have Protein Drinks made for pre-op bariatric patients.

Your upper GI was fast and easy? Mine was terrible, and I had the barium swallow version... then again I have a strong gag reflex and the barium was so thick it almost wouldn't move at all in the cup. Choking the entire time :) I swear I almost asked for the camera without anesthesia.

It really was. I just layed on the x-ray table (on my stomach) and the tech gave me the barium, it tasted ok at first but then it started getting gross. She took a couple of "pictures" and she had me stop drinking in between. It only took about 3-4 mins and I was done. I heard of other people that were given a carbonated drink that made them gag, but not me.

I heard we have to get an upper GI before we're allowed to leave the hospital after surgery, I don't know how that one will be since mine wasn't done at a hospital. I heard that most hospitals have a table that moves up and down and all around ....hopefully that won't be the case :tt1:

Sorry your experience was so bad :lol2: BUT it's all in the name of the good ole band, after this you'll (hopefully) never have to do it again

Hi, everyone! Just checking in and checking up.

I've been doing the pre-op diet for a few days now and so far, so good. Mine is quite different - 2 shakes and 2 meals per day. I got the Bariatric Advantage vanilla from my surgeons office...YUCK! I've been flavoring it with strawberry extract, peach extract, and other flavors from the spice/baking aisle.

Lost a couple pounds this week -- yay!

I haven't told anyone at work or even my friends. Just my immediate family. I have a friend who is banded and I know I'll eventually turn to her for help, but not right now. She's pretty competitive and I don't want to start a contest with her.

How many people have you all told about your surgery?

Do I tell my sister about my surgery or not? She is a very negative person and had gastric bypass 5 years ago and still suffers from throwing up and is pretty miserable. I dont need any negativity around me and I want this to be a success!!! Help!

I am also doing the Bariatric Advantage choc and vanilla, 2nd day for me. Today for lunch I added a small peach and cinnamon to the vanilla. I partially froze the Water first. I hope I can last on this. Tomorrow we have to go out of town and don't know what I am suppose to do about my shakes. Anyone have ideas? We will be with other people so don't want to be too obvious.

I have only told close family so far. I am 12 days from surgery date! :smile2:

Well I have to restrict caffeine so for 2 days I have been having 1/2 Decaf and for 2 days now I am sleepy all day. I only have coffee in the morn, so not sure why this all day sleepiness. Disgusting.

My date is October 15th. I decided to get the Realize band. I am not nervous about surgery at all which is kind of funny because this will be my first one. I am more concerned about the pre-op and post-op diets and not losing my mind over hunger lol. However, by the grace of God I know he will see me thru.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
