Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Looking for Buddy in South NJ

Recommended Posts

I have been banded since May 3rd 2010 and it has been a journey so far. I have lost about 36lbs so far but it has seemed to have stalled. Motivation seems to be my issue, I really don't have anyone to talk to that understands. My husband is great but half of the time I feel like what I say goes through one ear and out the other. Would be great to find someone near me to talk with!!!!!

Hi, I am looking for a buddy/mentor, I live in Central Jersey, I understand what you are saying I feel the same way talking to my husband and kids they real do not understand. I have been band since Nov 28, 2007, and yes it has been a long journey, and still have not reached my goal. Lost 82lb and in the last year I have gained 31 back, I had lost my motivation, but now I am real trying again. How far south are you? Maybe we can help each other.

Hello, thanks for responding. I am in Moorestown, NJ. That is about 15 minutes from Philly. Even if we aren't close enough to meet up maybe we can keep each other motivated and going. I am trying to take off the last 30lbs right now and I keep struggling with the same 3lbs up and down. I do great all day long and then around 3pm I am like a food monster and just lose all control and then go completely over my calories for the day and then I sit here wondering why I keep gaining the same 3lbs. I go to the gym 4 to 5 times a day and work hard but the food is killing me.

Hi, sounds good to me I live in Union, NJ, I truly feel your pain about the food monster(smile), mine happen at night I can do so well all day go to the gym or walk and come home and eat everything in sight, I told my daughter (22) no more junk food in this house. Lets try and think of something to do when we feel the need to eat more then we should..or lets write down what we eat and then share it with each other. I am trying to keep more fruit in the house like I did in the beginning. So let me know what you think.

That is exactly what happens to me I spend over an hour in the gym and eat around 600 to 700 calories for the day and then night falls and its like I turn into this monster and I just want to eat everything and then I wonder why I don't see the scale moving. Its so aggrevating that I have no self control over this. I just cant seem to talk myself out of eating whatever there is. Its just horrible. There has to be something maybe a fat picture of myself hanging on the fridge or something drastic like that..hahaha

Hi, I hate when i get food struck it is the worst, but I have learned pretty much what to eat, but some sometimes that craven takes over. How are you doing so far this week? I have done pretty well so far. Do you exercise? I try to go at least 3 times a week and i walk 2 times on a good week. What kind of foods do you eat? I eat mostly salads with chicken or fish and vegetables. I pretty much bake everything. Hoping all is well. waiting to hear from you.:smile2:

Well Tues was a really good day, I ate pretty well no horrible eating at night. I have to admit sometimes I am not the best eater and would lose so much more if I just stuck to what I am supposed to be eating. I eat, alot of chicken, sometimes steak with salad. I eat almost anything. I def. exercise about 4 or 5 times a week for a little over an hr. most days. I feel so good afterward but when I am eating crappy the exercise doesn't do much, thats the way I feel anyway. For some reason since banding it seems like I am craving cakes, pastries and stuff like that. Never was big on them before but now I can't get enough. Go figure!!!!!lol

Hi,

My name is bano and I live in the colonia/edison area. I would also like to have a buddy. Mostly to keep me accountable. Maybe the 3 of us can conference call once per week on 3 way or something? Just to keep ourselves motivated? I got my band in march and have only lost about 30 pounds. I know its because of my diet. I am an emotional eater and its a struggle for me everyday. Maybe we can help eachother out??

thanx

Sorry to be nosy, but I am in Howell, which is actually in the middle of all of you! Can I join your buddy group? I was banded September of 08, lost 40 lbs, gained 20, lost 9. I am so not doing well at all, and do not have anyone who knows what I am going through!

Hello: "Aunt Suzie" here, from the environs of Princeton-area, NJ... I've been blessed enough to have "mentored" more than a few, though will confess that I'm pretty much 0% "techie", (it's embarrassing really!:)) and find it difficult to navigate all the nuances of the LapBand Talk site, therefore, don't check into it very often... feel free to contact me: jakeornaments@aol.com, and will help you if I can! :(

In the meantime, take a deep breath, take one day at a time, TAKE YOUR Vitamins and take time to reach out... your buddies are here for you! Have a great weekend!

Aunt Suzie

Hi, l was thinking about coming back on, and here I am thankful it comes on my phone so I can see it. I am still having the same issues not so much the exercise because I do that at least 4 to 5 times a week, but what good is that if you come home and eat everything in site, ok you may be heart healthly but I want and need the weight lost. I feel like I am fighting a loosing battle and I am the enemy...lol, again maybe we can help each other or something. I am in the Union, Nj area.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
