Feeling sad and discouraged

Recommended Posts

I had the lapband done on the 10th of august. In 5 days I lost 15 lbs. Then it just stopped. Ive stayed the same now for 3 days, I know that im being silly and this is a slow process but it just bothers me that im eating nothing and not dropping weight. Im just having a bad day.

It happens to all of us. The body is extremley adaptive. It's purpose is to survive. So if it thinks that it won't be fed, in order to survive, it will slow digestive processes and do it's best to...survive. Hey, at least that's what I tell myself when I've done everything right and I don't drop weight...

Good luck

Rebecca

I am one month out today...I only dropped 8 pounds total since surgery (but I had lost 16 on the preop diet). I was feeling discouraged, as 5 of those 8 pounds took 3 weeks to get off and then I dropped 3 the last couple of days. In the 4-6 weeks after surgery, our bodies are doing so much settling in and adjusting to having the surgery. But at the end of the day, I did lose an average of 2 lbs. per week which is just fine. I got my first fill today, so things are looking up. Now the exercise restrictions are gone as well, so I know it's going to be much better from here. We just have to keep ourselves from getting discouraged during the early months...we've all read about the process...it now our turn to go through it! We have to hang in there even if it's by the skin our our teeth .

Have you ever watched the Biggest Loser? The first couple of weeks the contestants drop massive amounts of weight- 10 lbs, 15 lbs. etc. Then about the third week, everyone stalls. They lose a pound or two, or even gain a pound. I have watched every season, and this happens like clockwork. I think our bodies go into shock and need a couple of weeks to reset. Don't get discouraged. And try not to turn to eating to make yourself feel better. Just stick to it- if you persist, the weight will come off. I have had periods of months where I haven't lost a thing, and then the next 5-10 pounds comes off. You can do it too!:(

How many times in your life have you started a diet and lost the first week and then slowed down to a crawl? I have done this at least a thousand times. Then I give up after awhile and tell myself I am just a fat person and what is wrong with that anyway?

This is why I got the band. Now when I am discouraged, I can't give up because I have restriction and I can't go backward any more. I could if I wanted to but I decided I won't do it ever again so now I have to stick to it.....

Your mind set is everything!!!

You may lose a lot in the first week even though some don't and from there all you can count on is one pound a week. If you don't weigh so often, it helps. I am only getting on the scale once every two weeks or so now, and I spend the rest of the time focusing on the change in lifestyle I am working on. Remember, we didn't get this way overnight. Try to stay busy with other things it makes it go faster!! Hugs

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
