Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I am new here and scheduled for surgery on 9/30.

I am getting some pre op jitters, but I expect this is normal. My surgeon is in Jupiter Florida and has done thousands of these so Im hoping there will be no complications.

I worry about hernias after the surgery because my wife had to have her colon removed last year. All went well except they made her start eating to fast and she had a terrible vommiting spell which resulted in a huge hernia at the incision site requiring 2 more operations to repair it....Im sure it wont happen to me but I still have some fear about it. Anybody have this problem?

I have a BMI of 36 (about 90lbs overweight) and have terrible sleep apena.

I have always eaten healthy foods but the problem is I eat tons of it. I always clear my plate at every meal and others to if they leave food..Ha Ha...Portion control is my problem. Hoping this helps.

Been on the CPAP machine for 5 years now. Do any of you have sleep apena and after banding it went away or at least was not so bad? Would love to sleep without a machine.

Sorry to ramble here..

How do I set up one of those BMI meters I see attached to some of your messages?

Go to tickerfactory.com and set yourself up one. There will be a url at the end that you can copy and paste into your profile (look for the customize profile link) and then "edit signature". Paste the url into it.

Maxi2010

One thing I can say is that my doc requires a week of clear fluids only, no think protien shakes, popsicles, Isopure, watery juice, gatorade, Water, broth, that's it, maybe it's too soon for you

butterfly2010 super great news.

jayden, I'm on the same day as you, horah, there are so many pages in the thread, with tons of people who have been banded, it's great reading, very time consuming. good luck, and sounds like expect pain in the shoulder, gas, and no hunger the first few days post op.

Pooky, sending you support, I fear losing my comfort crutch too, foods always been there, maybe for now we can help with comfort, and I like the walk idea.

Cathy, onto onederland, wow!!!!

Congrats on your date! My surgeon removed a hernia at the same time as my surgery. I was told they usually keep people using a CPAP machine over night to ensure their oxygen levels are ok. Mine were very low and I was on oxygen for two days. Whenever we took the oxygen off, I set off the monitor indicating it was still too low. On the 2nd night we tried my CPAP machine and I did not set off the monitor all night. Hopefully when we lose some weight we can get off the CPAP. Not sure how we will know when we are ready, maybe a new sleep study? You will be on liquids for a week or two, just don't drink too much at once and stretch out the band. Good luck and keep in touch.

I too would like to know how to set up the tickers as well, if anyone can guide us. :rolleyes2:

Any of my September friends want to be my exercise buddy? I am committed to the idea of exercising regularly to make my band work its best, but I know it's going to be a struggle. I'd like to have a "check in" buddy who is equally committed to it, but maybe needs some external accountability like I do.

Hi Maxi,

Hang in there it gets better. Your stomach is still swollen from the surgery. My doctor told me that around 7-10 days, the swelling from the surgery will have almost completely disappeared which will be when my appetite will return. He was right. I'm sure each day you'll be able to drink more in a quicker time.

Don't worry about eating, we can got over a week without food but only a few days without Water, so drink, drink and drink more.

Hi CSinTX.

Thanks for the advice to drink more and not to worry so much about eating in the 1st few days after surgery. I started to drink more and eat less. It seems to be working. I feel better today.

I would love to! I'm sure others would as well. I am not in good shape to begin with however. I bought a treadmill just for this journey and it's in the middle of the living room right in front of the TV. We could each set a personal goal, and cheer the other one on. I am good at making up excuses too, so this way, I won't be able to get away with it.

Fantastic! I'm going to "friend you" through the site and then maybe we can update each other/set goals/etc. through the PM system. My plan is to start back on my treadmill this weekend as long as my pain is controlled by then.

If tons of people want to do it, we could start a September Bandsters exercise thread instead but I don't want our exercise messages to get lost in all of the other important things people here are talking about.

Ok cool, not sure how to do the friend thing so will wait for you. I found a 10,000 step program, so I could wear a pedometer on my treadmill. The ideal is to walk 10,000 steps a day. So that will be my goal. but will need to break it down into lots of baby steps. I need the motivation and encouragement of everyone to initiate an exercise program.:rolleyes2:

Awesome, how does the "fill" make you feel. Less hungry? Are you still eating pureed foods? My first post op is tomorrow and not sure if I will get a fill on that date or not. I also have some bruising on other parts of my stomach that I've noticed. At least they don't hurt.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
