Looking for September 2010 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I got banded on 9/14/10.. surgery went well thank goodness.

My question is for everyone, im 5 days out now and still have extreme gas pains in my shoulder. I walk and walk as much as i can, and still cant get rid of the sharp pains. Any suggestions? I also take mylanta by that doesnt seem to make it any better either..

I finally slept almost the whole nite last nite in my bed, I realized im ok sleeping on my right side and that made me a little more comfortable. If only my shoulder would stop.

I still have a little over one week left on Clear Liquids and im not sure if im getting enough liquids or not because my stomach growls a little and im starting to think about food when i cook for my son and boyfriend.

anyone have any good suggestions for that too?

well I hope everyone is doing good who had the surgery this month too!

Alright, guys... I am on the last few days of my pre-op diet, and I am really, rEaLLy craving some chocolate... Anyone know if sugar-free fudgecicles would be the same as the sugar-free popcicles?

I don't know about you, but my feet are getting cold, I'm so nervous I could puke, Wed is my day. All the time people were talking about their dates and stuff they seemed to be so calm cool and collected. You people are so brave. I could use some encouraging words right now, as I feel like I'll be walking into the hospital and then right back out.

Good Luck to those being banded tomorrow. I get my band on Friday, thank goodness, dont know how much longer I could do this fast. Today is day 6 and was really shaky today and felt like I was going to pass out. I just keep telling myself that I am almost there. I am down 7 1/2 lbs in 6 days. I am off to a good start. And have not cheated once!!! I figure that I dont want to waste my time or my money. I even went to lunch with a friend and ate my bar while she had a sandwich from subway. She stated she felt bad eating in front of me, I told her that I had to get use to it and this was my test to see if I could do it. And guess what its been hard the last 6 days but I am determined.

No cold feet here!! :w00t: I have jumped through so many hoops and have been looking for some kind of help to get me where I need to be for so long.. As long as I can get past the IV - I'll be damned if I am turning back now!

We CAN do this... I will be right there with you and Mom05 on Wednesday, a long with several other ladies. I chose the screenname "scarred for life" because I am willing to have a few scars, in order to be able to live.

I have a son who was born 2 months early, and weighed just over 2 pounds... he fought for his life, and he has only enriched mine. Now its my turn to fight for MY life. He is my biggest motivator, even if he can only cheer me on by saying.. muma muma! :tt1:

Purplevic, my surgery was the day before yours. The shoulder pain is excruciating. It flairs during the day, but at night--like now--i am in so much pain. I have barely slept. Sitting up, lying down. Doesn't matter. I keep the heating pad on it, but it just isn't getting any better. I feel like a baby, but I am in tears all night every night. Everyone says it is normal, but I can't take much more of this.

surgery sept 16.. im still in alot of pain much more pain than i anticipated but its getting a lil better everyday ..... just didnt expect to be in so much initial pain. still not sorry yet.....

I completely agree... completely not prepared for the level of pain! But it is slowly getting better.

I seem to have more pain when I haven't had an Optifast shake for awhile. It feels almsot like heartburn... not sure if any one else is has felt this. It seems to go away after I have a meal (1/2 an optifast).

Last night I was regreting it a little but have felt better today, most likely beacuse I managed to sleep better last night. I acutally slept for 4 hours straight at one stage unlike the revious nights where I was waking every hour!

Thanks for your post tho, I had always considered myself as someone with quite a tolerance to pain, but this was worse than any other operation I had undergone before! But atleast I know that I amnot on my own!

I hope everyone is starting to recover well, and thier gas pain is passing faster than mine... its a killer

Lastly good luck to everyone having surgery this week. All those pre-op diets will be just a memory soon :tt1:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
