Does it hurt when you get a FILL????

Recommended Posts

I go for my first fill on July 13th and and freaking out it's gonna hurt like you know what. I can not feel my port under my skin even though I have a pretty tight abdomen(SP?)

How does it feel to get your fills do you cringe thinking about it or is it now routine that nothing bothers you. I'm a baby when it comes to needles and have extreme anxiety what should I expect???

My fills are relatively easy! I go in lay down with a pillow in the small of my back. They find the port, administer the numbing medication, which stings a bit. Then they do the fill. My PA talks to me about different things the whole time and it really keeps my mind off of the procedure. All in all it is a decent event. Good luck!

I'm going for my 3rd fill tomorrow and while it's not fun and doesn't feel good, it doesnt really hurt, IMO. The worst part for me is when I'm laying down and my surgeon tells me to tighten my ab muscles and push so she can feel my port better and she pushes down on it. That hurts more than the needle. It really all depends on the person doing your fills and how good they are at doing them. My surgeon never sticks me more than once, unless she feels the fill was too much after she watches me drink the barium under the fluoroscope, then she takes a little out. It's over pretty quickly. Just don't look. I find that helps some. You'll be ok. It'll be over before you know it.

I hate needles too so I can understand your fear. My surgeon always does its under fluoroscopy. He numbs the area first which is a small prick and then I feel nothing. The first time he did it I kept waiting for the pain or something but nothing at all! Now I have heard horror stories where doctors stick their patients over and over again but I would be long gone before that happens. If he does it with the barium and fluoro there should not be any mistakes. Just ask him if he numbs the area first and if he does you won't feel a thing. Good luck the fear of the unknown is always the worst. After your first time you will see for yourself and can relax.

I just feel a small pinch... and never been given any type numbing medicine. My port is located on my right mid abdomen. I just lay on my back, do a small sit up and hold it there til the Dr. does his magic. It's pretty simple and almost pain free. GOOD LUCK!

I just had my first fill last week. I was so worked up over it, but I gathered my courage and went for it. I can honestly say...I didn't feel a thing. She numbed it with a small shot...which didn't even burn. It was over in less than a minute and I was on my way. I had to do two days of liquids followed by two days of mushies. Never had any issues with it and I do feel tighter....back in the green zone and very happy:-)

I was scared to death when I got my first fill literally had my sister hold my hand, and when he stuck the needle in it was like nothing and no numbing med's either. It was really no big deal, I laid down on the table the dr. stuck the needle in and had me sit up and he filled it. And he even had to go back in and take some out and it was so easy!!!!!!! Trust me don't even sweat it.

I got my first fill last Monday and I was worked up and anxious about it all day but it was a breeze. My doc laid me down on the table with a pillow in the small of my back and he finds my port under fluroscopy. They spray a numbing spray on the area, wipe it off and then insert the needle. The only thing I felt was the coldness of the numbing spray. You should really find out how your doctor does the fills whether he uses the fluoro and barium or goes it without. I think it would probably make a difference but before you make yourself sick with worry just call and ask.

I was pretty nervous too but it was nothing. My doc does not use floro or use numbing. It is over in 3 seconds and I am out of there.

I got my first fill today. Mine was very easy. A small shot to numb it, 1 minute and it was done. No pain at all. I didn't look at the needle. Didn't see any reason to worry myself about the size of the needle.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
