I pride myself on the fact that I seldom if ever eat at fast food joints. However, I eat at Subway® at least every 2 weeks.

Someone include Subway® in their list of fast food joints and I was curious as to how many others considered it this way.

Yes, I do think of it as a fast food joint, but I don't think that is saying something bad about it. I don't go there anymore because bread is not my friend. I do visit Wendy's at least one time every week for a small chili.

Now that is a fast food joint.:smile2: ( I visit starbucks too, fat and sugar free, of course)

I'd definitely consider it fast food.

Its processed, you have no control what goes into it, the bread is horrible fluffy manufactured stuff no matter which variety used and no doubt contains additives like supermarket bread does, and like Mcdonalds, the inclusion of a few wilted salad vegies doesnt really make it an acceptable every day food. The meat they use is no doubt from the arse end of whichever animal, and is not the leanest highest quality stuff.

However, even McDonalds can fit into a healthy lifestyle, and if its what you enjoy, then there's no harm in eating it once in a while! You shouldnt feel guilty for the occasional treat or convenience food as long as you recognise it for what it is. Once every two weeks is hardly overindulging and if you like it, you shouldnt feel you cant do that.

Subway is fast food but I would consider it pretty healthy.Depends on what fillings you choose. I haven't tried a sub for a while but they give wraps as an option which are generally easier to eat. the last time I was there I had a salad. The salad costs more than the sub but when they served it I realised why - it was huge. they should have smaller size options as it was a complete waste.

I haven't eaten at Subway since my surgery because I'm too afraid of bread (5 weeks post op), but I think it's a much better decision than getting a Big Mac at McDonald's with a heaping pile of fries along side of it. :)

Some fast food joints are attempting to implement healthier food options which is nice for ppl like us who are trying to lose weight. I'm with HummingBird on having a Wendy's chili once in awhile. :smile2:

We have an addiction that is food. Unlike a smoker/drinker/drug addict, we can never completely give food up. We need food to live and it can be a challenge to make the right food choices. I think Subway is a decent place to eat. :)

Only 13 votes so far but this is very close.

I have to eat at Subway every once in a while because it is how I measure my restriction.

I can still finish a 6" sub if I take my time. Hopefully after Wednesday this will be thing of the past.

I voted yes, but only because it's not a sit down and order restaurant...I think as places to eat out goes, it's one of the healthiest, although I don't eat there now since I can't have the bread and I would want my old friend the 6"meatball...:smile2:

After a couple bites of any 6" sub it would be slime city for me.:smile2: It might even be worse than slime city. :)

yep i do consider it a fast food place, not that it necessarily needs to sell junk food, it can be healthy fast food place.

we just need to make the right choices. :bored:

Yes but you can make good choices there, I always get the 6 inch wheat, veggies only, no mayo, just mustard w/ cheese. The subway by myself has fresh, crisp vegetables. I can see them make it which I like also.

I'm with you on this one!

I don't really consider it fast food. I think it's somewhere in the middle. I don't eat there anymore because I can't eat the bread. I know they have salads now, but they are just too expensive. I eat Wendy's grilled chicken salads sometimes, but they are huge as well. I never realized how big portion sizes are until I got the band. No wonder America is so overweight and unhealthy.

Fast food joint- there's no server, therefore Subway is fast food ( plus if you can get your food in 5 minutes or less it's FAST food!)

I think Subway can fit into a healthy lifestyle. I wouldn't eat it everyday, but I wouldn't beat yourself up about eating it once a week or so. That said, like other restaurants, they sell food that is all over the spectrum from good to awful. There are certainly things on the Subway menu I would avoid at all cost - like the Cookies...

Some of the sauces and Condiments are not particularly healthful either.

Unless you sit down, order from a menu, and they bring it to you after being freshly prepared by a team of cooks then I consider it fast food.

But fast food is on a spectrum. We still have to be picky. Neither a wrap or a sub from SUBway helps me. I have to learn towards a salad. If I want lots of veggies and a chicken breast with a low cal/low fat dressing I will hit them up for a $5 meal.

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
