Unable to drink much liquid

Recommended Posts

I've been banded for 18 months and have lost 41 pounds so far, so I have been living with my band for awhile and am familiar with its side effects. However, I tried to eat some unfriendly things this past weekend and had major vomiting.

I've had lots of producting burping before but the side effects have never been this strong. Since this weekend, and getting progressively worse, I'm unable to get much food down, not even clear broth, and my stomach hurts even when I sip Water. Is this just irritation that will fix itself once the swelling from the vomiting goes down? Not to be gross, but I have only peed once today (when I woke up this morning). The band has never felt so tight I don't think.

Should I go to the doctor or wait it out? I would hate to spend the money to the get band loosened only to start eating too much and gaining weight again (I've had that problem before). Is this temporary or a real thing I need to be concerned about?

Sounds a little bit like me. I was banded in October 2009 and had no problems at all until recently. It seems I may be a bit sensitive to the band. If you were vomiting you probably irritated your stomach and have some swelling. Try taking some childrens liquid Motrin or Liquid Tylenol. That should help the irritation and swelling. Stay of liquids, try some ice pops or italian ice. That seems to work for me. Just take baby baby sips so it slides through without being restricted by the band. If it's not better I would say by this time tomorrow or the next day then I would definitely call the doctor!! Good Luck!!

Hello, even with the productive burping it sounds like you should speak to your doctor. Health is important even if it does cost.

I've had this issue -- call the doctor, esp. if you're not peeing. You can dehydrate pretty easily with this thing, and even the tiniest unfill can make a huge difference. I ended up in the emergency room last year b/c I was on the way to dehydration, and you don't wanna end up there! Just be on the safe side.

It sounds like you have swelling caused by a stuck episode (the vomiting).

When this happens to me, I have learned NOT to eat---but to focus on fluids. Once the swelling goes down, I add eating back in.

Sip, sip, sip continuously. If you can't get enough Fluid in to produce pale yellow urine, call your doctor. If you think you have already become dehydrated, call your doctor, describe what's going on, and let him/her know, with as much specificity as possible, what your intake and output has been today.

Chances are, you're not at the point where you require IV fluids--but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

I experienced this with my last fill. The first two weeks I was able to eat liquids, but on the third week it just got worst. I had everything you described. It turned out that my band was too tight so they removed some cc's.

I agree with you its not a good feeling. I did loose about 19 lbs. which I know its not healthy because I couldn't eat anything for a couple of days. Go to your doctor ASAP. Loosing that much weight is not worth risking your health.

I had this same thing this week. I had a stuck episode and then had a lot of trouble with Water for the next two days. I decided to do liquids only for a 24 hour period and did not eat until the water was going down easily. It worked and I am fine now. Hope this helps you a little Hugs!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
