Wonderring if anyone had any of these problems before getting banded?? I have all three, and getting babded tommrow. Just wonderring about the pain Can you share your experience with me

I have fibro and have had it since I was 11... so 24 years now. Third day of the pre-op diet my fibro went nuts! For a good three weeks after being banded I was all over the place with my symptoms: insomnia, fatigue, dizziness, pain (no surprise there), numbness. Good chance that your fibro will come out to play too. I got my band six months ago and I'm back to my normal state.

I do seem to be having a tougher go than others getting proper restriction (but I don't know if it's fibro related), and of course getting the needed exercise is very hard when you're in so much pain that you just want to sit and cry some days, so I'm finding my weight loss is very slow. But it's getting there.

Expect fibro problems. Any surgery will make your fibro flare.

I have bursitis in my shoulder and arthritis in my hips. I'd heard horror stories of the gas pains in shoulders, but when I was banded last month, didn't have any problems. In fact, while I was healing all my other issues seemed to be put on the back burner! My allergies disappeared, no pain other than the surgery pain, which was tolerable. I think the body is a miraculous thing, to set aside things like sneezing (which would have hurt like hell!) in order to focus on healing.

Don't really know anything about fibromyalgia...

I've had fibro for...well, more than half my life!

I have felt GREAT since surgery. The low-carb, higher-Protein diet has helped me tremendously, as has the weight loss itself.

(I realize some of this may be coincidence; a flare can startle me at any time...but so far so good!)

I didn't have any adverse effects related to the anesthesia, surgery, etc. I did make use of the pain meds given to me, however.

I do have ortho issues that concerned me--operating table positioning can cause soreness. But I must've been handled with care, because I didn't experience anything untoward.

I also did not have the dreaded shoulder pain--which is good, 'cause my shoulder hurts badly enough without added insult!

ETA: Exercise is the BEST medicine for me--I discovered this a few years before banding, and it still holds true. Once I learned that pushing through the pain didn't really significantly worsen things (I mean, I felt crappy anyway...), and got into a good groove, I found that I feel much, much better with regular, vigorous (but not punishing) exercise.

I have fibro and will be banded on Friday so I hope I have as good of lucky as the rest of you. I hope that this will help as just losing 25lbs so far I so feel better on most days, but then it had to go and rain this morning and I sure feel it.

The best form of exercise I have found is swimming, I loved going to the YMCA and swim in the warm Water. Can't wait to get started after my surgery.

I have Fibro and Degenerative Osteoarthritis in my back and hips. The pain meds helped with the surgery pain, but it seemed to take me a bit longer to bounce back after surgery than others. The trainer they had me see gave me stretchy band exercises to do. My shoulders are killing me right now from trying them. Not the muscles, the joints. Let yourself heal before trying any of that. Fortunately my regular doctor upped my pain meds to the liquid hydrocodone I got from my lap band doctor from darvocette since that has helped better with pain and swallowing after surgery. Good luck! Just think, once you start losing weight, the pain should lessen in all your joints. Mine already is and I am 6 weeks postop and have lost 30 pounds.

I have Fibro and deg. arthritis in both knees. The pain after surgery was difficult but I was able to go off the pain meds after about 4 days. They kept me overnight and had me on a pain pump. If I needed pain meds I could give it to myself. It took longer to recover from the surgery for me than others. I didn't feel really myself for two weeks. I couldn't lift heavy objects for about 2 months. Hope this helps. Best wishes with you surgery. Keep us posted!!!
