strange 6 month supervised diet!

Recommended Posts

You know, everyone's dieticians are different! When I met with the surgeons dietician, he gave me my diet guidelines, and it confused me. There is no calorie limititations, nor portion sizes, it's basically a practice diet to get me used to eating like I will need to after I get banded! The dietician told me that their goal is not so much weight loss, if I lose weight that's great but it's not a requirement, as long as I don't gain 5 lbs or more.

I am supposed to eat at least 4 times a day, high Protein, low carbs....eat the protiens first, then fruits and veggies, try not to eat many carbs, especially white bread, Pasta and rice, and not to drink with my meals. I also have to learn to eat slowly, take small bites, and to chew really well.

I guess it's more of a behavior modification diet than anything else! I am assuming that I will lose some weight in 6 months time, since I am not eating so much as I would normally do. It's going to be interesting to see how this pans out!

It is actually not strange as they try to get you to live the band life before surgery. I lost 65 pounds before surgery which included 13 from the 2 weeks of Optifast. i did also go from being inactive to about 6 hours of exercise a week at that time so it helped prove to me it was the right things to do. I continue to lose 1-2 pounds a week after surgery for the last 5-6 months so I have lost almost 100.

I still am working on the not drinking with meals so please work on that one. I never have a problem getting in my 64 ounces but I drink too much with meals. All the best,

It sounds like the best plan EVER. Seriously, learning how to eat the way you'll eat when banded is a great idea.

I think it is a great idea. I wish I would have done something like that. I am almost 6 weeks out and I have not had my first fill. Changing the pace and portions of my eations had been the hardes thing to do. I am so used eating fast and I know once I have restriction that will HAVE to stop. I also caused my self some major gas pain about week three because I was simply drinking to fast. I too am having a hard time with the no Water with meals thing so like the other user said get into practice of doing that also. Good luck and best wishes to you sounds like you have a good medical staff on your side

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
