About Yourself

I thought it would be nice if we all tell a little about ourselves if you would like to.

A little about me. My name is Becky I am 29 will be 30 on April 24th. I live in Tennessee. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 12 years and we have 3 boys. Tyler and Jayden identical twins will be 10 in June and Ryan my baby is 7. I am the lone girl in a houseful of men. LOL. Of course I think it would be worse if we had all girls and my husband was the only one in a houseful of women. Ha-Ha. I am a Teacher's Assistant in Preschool. I work in my kids school it is a wonderful job I have the same schedule as my kids, off on weekends, holidays, and summer. Can't get any better than that.

I have been working on the lapband since July 2009 it has been a journey I am glad it is finally scheduled. My surgery is scheduled for April 8th I am anxious, nervous, worried, excited, etc., etc. Can't wait to get to know you all and go through this wonderful life change with you. I won't be able to go to support group meetings because they are either during the day when I am at work or at night when my husband is at work and I don't have a babysitter. So I am hoping this will be my support besides friends and family when I need it. :)

Hi Becky,

You are brave...the only woman in a house full of men!! ha ha ha!! It's nice to 'meet' you. My name is Deb. I live in the Tampa area. I'm a 38 year old English teacher in a Dept. of Juvenile Justice program. I am currently on month 4 of my 6 month approval diet. I am married to a fantastic man (a tropical fish farmer) and have no children (just the ones I teach).

Congrats on having a surgery date. Good for you.

Good luck!

Hi Deb and Becky

I keep pretty busy with my kids. I just had my one year band aversary on March 12. It is exciting when you get your date but I also remember being really nervous. I hope your procedures go really well.

My name is Debra and I am 57 years old. I have been married to my husband for 17 years and he is supportive of my decision. I have a 30 year old son, a 27 year old daughter who is married and a 6 year old granddaughter (my son's). She is, of course, the best part of my life.

I work as a nursing home administrator in a 60 bed building. I love my job, but it is very stressful and I, of course, respond by eating. :crying:

I have been fat since I was 10 years old and I am an expert dieter. I have lost 50 pounds four times in my life, but each time I gain it back with more added. I was at my highest weight ever in March.

I finally have developed diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, apena, reflux and joint/back pain. :yikes:

I feel like this is my last chance to really impact my life and I am ready to do it.

I am scheduled to have my surgery on April 7. I was not required to do a preop diet, but have been worried about them getting in there and my liver being too fatty, so I started my own preop on March 8. I have lost 15 pounds so far and still doing pretty well. :smilielol5:

I am doing Protein drink for Breakfast and lunch and lean meat and low carb veggies at night. I have gotten to the stage on the low carb diet that I am not overwhelmingly hungry all the time. I do not find eating meat difficult and I hope with the Portion Control aided by the lap band, I will be able to lose and maintain. :yesnod:

I decided to look into the band in October 2008 and have seen three different surgeons. I finally have found one I can work with and who is approved by my insurance and practices at the right hospital for my insurance. It has been a difficult journey, but I am finally there. :ack2:

I am excited and nervous and worried and scared and happy all at the same time. :o I am unable to think about anything except my upcoming surgery. I feel obsessed. I want to get through this and have a new life where everything is not about food and weight.

It is wonderful to have this outlet to express my feelings and help with my stresses. I am looking forward to taking the journey with some others on line here, so keep posting!

By supporting each other, maybe we can all be successful together! Group hug! :cursing:

Hi to everyone..

My name is Jen, and I am scheduled to be banded on April 20th! I am so excited, but a little nervous :smilielol5: I start my pre op diet this Tuesday-- I think Im the most afraid of that!! However-- IT IS THE LAST DIET I WILL EVER GO ON!!

I am 30 years old and live in North Carolina with my girlfriend, Erica, and our two dogs- Miller and Ali. Erica is really supportive, and I am sooooo lucky to have her.

I came to the decision to have lap band surgery a few months before I turned thirty. I am a nurse and a chronic "caretaker".. lol.. typical nurse :cursing: After feeling really lousy for the last couple years-- I decided it was time to start taking care of myself.

Good Luck to everyone on this journey!! :o

My name is Taylor. I am a 26 year old guy in Chicago, IL. I have been working on gaining insurance approval since February 2009. It has been one headache after another. And in that time I have gained almost 20 lbs.

On my birthday this year my mother passed away. My last conversation with her was for her to tell me she bought me a special heavy duty talking scale to help me keep track of my progress. After speaking with my family, we have decided to use the insurance money to pay for the procedure.

I will become a Bandster on 27 April. I will be starting the ever-dreaded pre-op diet on Monday, 12 April and hope that in addition to getting the liver ready that I will see some inspirational weight loss leading into surgery. 6 weeks post-op I am scheduled for a Disney vacation and hope to be up to the challenge of regular walking and resisting those tempting treats.

My heaviest weight is my current weight at 412 lbs and my goal is 265 lbs. According to the ideal charts, I should be at 192 so I think the 265 is a great goal... for now.

Best wishes to everyone being banded this month.

Hi all!

I'm 31, a marketing consultant and I live in Ottawa, Canada. I've been overweight my entire life and have considered having WLS a few times. I never really took it seriously until my uncle had it done in January 2010. Although he went to Mexico for his (he's doing great!), I opted to have mine done here in Canada at the Slimband clinic in Toronto.

Dr Yau performed my surgery on Friday, April 16th and I've been on the liquid diet since. Just took off my bandages today and everything looks and feels pretty good today.

I lost 6lbs during the pre-op diet (one week) and I've already lost another 4 since the surgery. I've got another 120 to go but looking forward to the journey ahead!

Hello everyone!!

My name is Amanda. I am 30 years old, and I have been married for 12 and half years to one of the most supportive men in the world. He has supported me through every diet known to man, and now he is supporting me with my surgery. I have three children two, two boys and a girl. I am a wound care nurse in a long term care facillity, and am currently going back to school to obtain my RN.

I was banded April 14th, and I am doing well now. I can hardly tell I have had surgery!! Every now and then I will get sore in my stomach muscles, but generally that is when I feel like I have over-done it for the day. I would do it again in a heartbeat though!!

Hi, I'm 43 and live in Denver. 3 years ago I lost 70 lbs, but have since gained it all back. I've been very fortunate in that I don't have any other health problems.

My husband is very supportive, but I haven't told anyone else in my family. My family has always been totally obsessed with weight and I just don't want to have this be a big focus.

I was banded on 4/8 and so far have been losing weight. I have eaten a few crackers and tonight had a bit of ice cream, but otherwise have been sticking to it. I get my first fill on 5/18, so I hope that will help me fight my temptations.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
