(Feb 8, 2010) I hit my goal weight just last week. 165lbs. I have lost a total of 115lbs in eight months. I have done everything asked of me. Exercise, watched my diet, taken my Vitamins, etc.

I got stuck a couple of times along the way. For various reasons. not chewings, food too tough, etc. But I was able to get an un-fill and then fill to get back on track.

But now that I am at goal. I am happy to be at 165 and want to stay in this area. I never want to go over 170. But this morning I lost another pound! Ok, so I am not freaking out but I don't want to keep going down either. I know I have to go and get my fill tweaked for maintenance but can anyone share with me their story of this part of the journey?

How long did it take for you to maintain?

Did you tweak your exercise? (right now I work out five days a week)

I'd love to hear from some of you.

I'm not yet at goal so I can't give you advice about maintaining, but just wanted to congratulate you on your wonderful success!

Hi LauraKey! Congrats on such a successful weightloss :-)

Your body is in the groove of losing weight, and if you want it to stop, one of your variables has to change. To simply maintain, you have to completely balance your caloric intake with what your burn throughout the day. The way I see it, you have two options to do this: tweak your band or tweak your habits.

1) With a slight unfill you will be able to eat just a little more of your healthy food choices at each meal and maintain your weight while continuing your current exercise routine.

2) Cut back your exercise to 3-4 times a week, and healthily increase your caloric intake (maybe add another small meal or snack to your routine)

I think #1 is the better of the two options, but it's a personal choice. Another thing to keep in mind is that it's completely normal to have your weight flucuate a bit. Perhaps instead of maintaining exactly 165, you can maintain a range of 160-170 or something like that. If you start to fall outside of that range with your new 'tweaks,' you can sound the alarm and reevaluate what needs to be done to keep you within that range. Good luck and congratualtions again!

All I can say is you are amazing and what an inspiration this is to me. 115lbs in 8 months is just incredible! How many fills did you have? What size band? what does your daily diet consist of? Again, CONGRATULATIONS!

I never needed to change much, my weight loss got slower and slower till I reached goal, it just happened to stop about there. Then very occasionally, I'd drop another pound or two.

My exercise has I guess come down a little from my peak, but I still exercise four or five days a week and pretty hard.

I guess the difference is, I wouldnt be worried to see the very very bottom of my healthy weight range, currently I hover in the middle. My preferred body type is skinny and as I'm tall, I really dont do curvy well, I just look big and blockish. So when a pound or two falls away, I'm happy about it!

If I ever did hit that bottom level of 135 or so at 5ft 10 (cant see it happening), then I would unfill a bit to make sure I didnt go any lower. And I think I might before then as I think I'd have no boobs left!

But in short, the answer for me is I didnt need to do anything, my body decided where it wanted to be and it just so happened to be at around the weight I'd set as my goal.

I'd like to stay between 160-170. I am hoping that settles naturally as well. I am not so sure about the tummy though. Now I need to focus on that! Sigh!

You should be really proud of yourself....a big pat on the back from me anyway! Just wanted to congratulate you...as long as you keep up your new habits you should do great! As far as maintaining, I'm not so sure I am in any position to give you advice, as every time I've lost weight and was never able to maintain it for any length of time. But you already got some good advice in previous posts like adding a snack or getting a slight unfill. Enjoy your success for again, congratulations!!!

Going to get another slight unfill tomorrow. Going to take all this advise and use it! I can't eat quite a cup of food and that's Soup which I've been eating everyday. I need to get more solid foods in me. I miss my meat, but it hurts to eat it right now. I am not stuck according to my doc, just readjusting, which is fine. So I am going to have a little more removed. This week I will continue to workout five days but if I still drop, I will change it to four days next week. I'm sure I will get all this tweaked out pretty good.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes and the pats on the back. I am very proud and happy!

Now....balance and peace!

Congrats on your success! It's posts like these that keep me coming back here and getting out of bed each day. 115 lbs in 8 months is incredible -INCREDIBLE! I've only lost 18 lbs in 4 months (but now that I actually have restriction, I should go up).

Just wanted to tell you how well your doing. Do you have photos? I'd love it if you'd post them!

Marci

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
