6 month pre-op diet question

Recommended Posts

What kind of diet did you do if you were required to do a doctor led pre-op diet before getting surgery approved? I have my initial consult with my surgeon today and will ask her but Ive been seeing my PCP since the end of November to do the 6 month pre-op diet and its not going well. I start off so well doing a WW type diet but then after a few days just fall off the wagon. Im so frustrated with myself and it makes me wonder if Im going to be able to stick to a diet once Ive been banded.

Thanks for any advice!

I'm going for my consultation on the 17th and I know my insurance requires a 6 month diet too. I'm pretty bummed about it, but I know how badly I want this so I'm willing to do anything. I think as long as you don't gain any weight from the first months weight you'll be fine, so I've heard. I've started trying to eat better. I eat 3 meals with no snacking in between....and at night I'll eat carrot stick and a yogurt dip. I've also been trying to work out 20-30 minutes a day Monday - Friday. I just keep on looking at peoples before and after pics for motivation. I want this so badly.....

Good Luck!!!

My 6 months required I meet with a nutritionist 3 times and attend 3 shared medical appointments.

For me it was more about achieveing the new habits that are so important to the band. Some are below not all applied to me.

1. quit smoking

2. quit caffeine/bubbly drinks

3. cut sweets

4. cut drive thrus

5. learn to eat slowly

6. learn small bites

7. learn to chew

8. learn to drink 64 ounces and sipping it!~

9. good nutrition

10. what will your stomach hold post band?

11. identify other challenges in your everyday life to success with teh band

12. lots of discussion on Protein, protein, protein

13. execise regimen

so you can get the idea mine was less about what are you doing today and more about what are you doing to today that could sabbotage your future success

as you will find on here every medical team has different requirements so be sure to follow what has been set forth by yours over anything posted on lbt

I agree with the above post.. Mine was basically the same, they didnt required me to lose a certain amount of weight, but the 6months allows them to see how good you are going to be post band, if you can follow rules and suchs.. I made small changes throughout my 6 months and lost 20lbs. (i slowed down at the end cause i am close to a 40BMI)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
