Did they give a reason? Is there any way they will re-evaluate their decision either now or in the future.

What does your practice say is the next step? My doctor told me if I were denied he'd do a peer to peer call and felt confident he could get it through. It means more wait time and hoops to jump through but if it gets you approved, it's worth it. Don't give up yet :)

Hang in there. There's the appeal process. It may take you a little longer, but I'm claiming that it'll go through for you. What was the reason for your denial?

Thank you ladies for being so positive. They said they would only repair the hernia i have. They said it wasnt necessary to take out the band and do revision to bypass. But that doesn't make sense to me since the band caused the hernia in the first place.

My insurance advocate at my doctor's office is sending in the appeal this week. She said it should hopefully go thru and that it shouldn't take more than 2 weeks to find out an answer. I feel like I've been waiting forever already. And yesterday I just cried practically all day long. Im so depressed over this decision.

Hang in there. I feel so bad when I hear stories like this. Hopefully your doctors office will help push this through for you.

Don't let yourself get down, we all know what tends to happen when we are depressed.

I wish you all the best and will say a little prayer for you.

Hopefully i can gain support thru this group of people. I know everyones responses have already helped in so many ways. Glad i joined this forum.

THERE IS HOPE!!! My surgery was denied too. The peer to peer was denied as well. I was supposed to have surgery in January. An appeal hearing was set for February 2 states away! I was beyond upset! Well, I guess after they received my letter and copies of my records they overturned the decision! I literally started crying at work when I got the call. My surgery is MONDAY!!!!

Hang in there! Write a letter explaining all the problems you've had with the band.

Best of luck to you!

I was denied at first also. I think it standard practice to deny but just keep at it. My doctor had me approved within 3 mos. Even with the initial denial.

If you could not tolerate it (everything got stuck) that is a good reason to have the band removed! Good luck on appeal!

@@forabetterlife i haven't heard anything just yet. It will be two weeks this Tuesday so im hoping i hear something soon. I've been calling and bothering my insurance company and i don't think that's helping. So I'm leaving it in God's hands and praying that they have enough information now to move forward with the pre authorization for surgery. Apparently it wasn't an appeal. It was a pre authorization process for surgery. Im guessing now if they don't have info they need then we do an appeal but im confused on the whole thing. The pain gets a little more sharp everyday and im hoping this nightmare is over soon.

I amj so sorry h that your are going through this. Sometimes, you need to, just sometimes, exagarate the poain a bit. I do NOT men flat out lie. what I am saying is you need to have in your doctor's history, how bad the bnd is hurting you. How you feel. So when the insurance company person who goes through hundreds of these a day, look at it and can say.

"well this person ha been back and forth the there pcp.many complaints and complications with the band. It will be cheaper for us to revise then for her to keep going back and forth to the doctor's plus meds".

This is how they think.

I had to jumo through many mnay hopes not for bypass but for my Tummy Tuck I got 4 weeks ago, today.

I was denied 3 times.

Then I got a hold of paper work with HOW to be approved.

Tjhye changed it from 12 months post op to 18 months... Done

3 viits to your pcp with skin issues. I had complained for over 1 year about the skin rashes but never had made an appt. just for that. So Done

Then I needed to hhave the plastic surgeon write a letter and pictures of the skin. AND my pcp had to write a letter.

Done Done and Done.

It took 7 weeks and I got approved.

Just don't give up!!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
