Gallbladder remival surgery in 3..2..1

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I had my sleeve done Jan 2013.

Shortly after that I developed gallstone pains. After a year and a half I'm finally over it and having it removed. Now with this pain I had to learn how to eat in a different way than my surgeons have instructed. (Basically I was told to eat lean meats and high natural fats such as nuts, but butters and avocado etc..) that being said- almost all of those things triggered gall attacks. So I can handle meat still- give me a juicy steak and I'm a happy girl!

While my doctor doesn't really have advice as to what I can and can't eat- I've read to stay away from red meats, all peanuts, all fatty foods (including healthy fats and oils that my body definitely needs!!) I've also read I should stay away from dairy for a long time- so there goes my high Protein soft food.

I am unable to supplement many vitamins- my body just rejects them- still unknown why- so I've relied heavily on healthy nuts and oils and such to help my nutrition.

This all being said. I know some of you have been through this, any advice would be amazing!

What can I eat post gallbladder removal surgery?

At this point I'm thinking chicken broth.... And I'm almost stumped at that!

Thank you in advance for the advice!

OMG! Me too, I was sleeved in June 2013 and almost to the year in May had a massive attack and had emergency surgery to have it removed.

Yes you want to make sure you watch what you eat ( high fat or fried foods will do numbers on your stomach). But I eat everything and I'm doing fine.

Good luck

Thank you!! That brings piece of mind!!!

I'm trying to put together a "post op" menu, and I seemed to run out of ideas for really soft foods that don't have dairy, or any fat in it.

This should be easier now thank you!

I had my gall bladder removed during my VGS. I have had a few foods that do not agree with me, but mostly, it is the speed at which I consume the food or Water. I am so glad to have my GB removed as it was causing me discomfort before the surgery. Just try one new food at a time...if it works then yeah! if it doesn't....don't totally give up. Try again a month later. Best wishes!

I had mine out 7 months post sleeve. Nothing bothers me. I still eat protien and vegies. No high carbs. Fat does not bother me at all.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
