I just registered to this site today after lurking for the past couple of days. My first office visit was in early February. I have been at 380 over the past two years, although I had fluctuated as musch as 40 pounds lower. Prior to that I peaked at 400, and prior to that (1999-2009) I have been in the 300s bouncing up ad down with different diet attempts.

Over the last 10 years my primary had suggested bariatric (GBP) being an endocrinologist and very aware of the tendency toward diabetes, heart disease, etc. and I was critical of a surgical solution to what I believed to be solely a behavioral issue. Having gone twenty pounds up and ten pounds back for 10+ years, and having reviewed the associated statistics for commorbidities and lifespan, I have entered into the process. I have chosen the VSG, for the very simple reason that it appears to maintain the original plumbing. i am exactly 200 punds over what I would want to be.

I completed all of my consults, my last being the psychological eval, which is scheduled to happen in a couple of weeks. So far all completed tests are approving of the surgery.

So right now I am in the reading stage, sampling high Protein Drinks, answering family questions, etc. I am not clear on the timeframes going forward. My understanding is that upon qualifying the psych eval my surgical team will submit me for approval. Not sure how long it will take after that.

Congrats on making the decision to do something about your weight. One of the quotes I read was from Dr Oz who says that being 100 pounds overweight is similar to having a cancer. If you would operate for cancer, why wouldn't you operate to help lose the weight. For me, that was eye-opening. As you've seen for yourself, it's difficult, if not impossible, to take off the weight AND keep it off, without surgery.

Since you've been reading here, you already know that any WLS is just a tool, but that tool helps us to do what we've been unable to do alone for years. But, you will always have this tool to help you meet your goals. :)

Keep us updated on your journey, please...and good luck.

Good Luck... There are going to be a lot of changes you will have to make. I felt I knew everything about the surgery before proceeding. However, it has been a overwhelming journey and an eye opener. Almost 60 pds later I know I made the right decision and feel absolutely great. This forum will help you a great deal.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
