December Delights 2009

It has been FOREVER since I posted on here...but I sure could use your help/advice!! I had a fill on Friday. Followed the dr's instructions and had liquids the rest of the day Fri. On Sat I was allowed to transition to mushies and soft foods. This all went great! In fact i felt like I could eat a ton (I didn't though). Today (Sunday) I am to go back to normal foods. I have meds I take 2x a day. This morning I took my pills and they briefly got stuck. I decided I was just gonna do a shake for Breakfast. It went fine. Lunchtime-I decided to have some turkey deli meat wrapped around some string cheese. I ate like 3 bites and pain and fullness and hiccupping and burping . Dinnertime-I made lasagna. I mashed the crap out of mine, and ate no noodles and chewed like I never chewed before and got in 2 bites before the pain and hiccups and burps started. Why could I eat yesterday and not today? Am I just irritated from the stuck pills? Do i need a slight unfill or should I hold out a few days? Argggg this is so frustrating because I am STARVING!!

Hi ppl...im new to this so bear with me...i was banded 12.01.09 n i havent lost any weight! Well, 17lbs..ive had 3 fills n i dnt know how much is in my band b/c my surgeon won't tell me! All he does is degrade me n tell me how i am the worst pt he has ever had...encouraging huh?...I am not making terrible food choices and i try 2 exercise at least 3 days a week...has anyone else had not so good with the band? Im just so disgusted and depressed abt this. I am on here to find some support b/c i dnt really have anyone to talk to abt what im going thru. does anyone have any suggestions? oh, i have since moved to another city due to my job and i have another surgeon that i am gonna start seeing...BUT my insurance doesnt kick in until june 1st...my appt is june 2nd lol...

hopefully your new city brings a new doctor who will be supportive. I will say that i have to exercise 5 or 6 days a week to make a difference. Maybe that would help you feel better, too. not a lecture, just thinking. June 1st is just around the corner, so maybe a short term goal would benefit. I can do almost anything for a month. It is a lifetime that always got me, lol.

From what I've read (various posts), what you're describing is very common - severe tightening after a fill. It also might have something to do with the stuck pills. Were you taking tiny bites?

As long as you can get fluids down, you should be alright. If I were you, I'd take it easy (go back to liquids) and wait a couple/few days to see if the swelling goes down. Of course, it's entirely up to you and how you feel. I just experienced something similar, only I couldn't get/keep any Water down. I decided to get a slight unfill (1cc). I wasn't hungry though - not at all, just really thirsty.

Wishing you luck... and comfort.

Karyn: I'm so glad you had some (or all ) of that fill taken out. I've had that same experience twice and it scared the pants off of me. I'm sorry you had to go through it, too. I couldn't swallow my own saliva during the night and woke up choking a million times - then just stopped trying and went to the doctor. As soon as that fill came out, I was my normal self again. Sounds like your fills are going to end up at .5 or .3 CCs like mine. I'm so relieved you're feeling better, though.

I remembered that you had been too tight... and when I started to freak-out about not being able to get the Water down, I went back and read your posts. It definitely calmed me down a bit. Thanks for that.

This is a learning experience, that's for sure! It sure is comforting not to be going through it alone.

HI GUYS! I keep saying how sad I am that our group isn't more active, but now I see that you are all posting here! This is awesome, I need some friends that are going through the same thing at the same time!

I am really excited because I lost 80 lbs so far, but I have a hard time sharing with anyone because I feel weird if they ask how and I dont know them that well. Plus, kind of ashamed that I had 80 to lose and 110 STILL left to go

I am having my wedding on October 21 and I hope to be under 200. I kind of jumped the gun and bought my dress and it wont really fit if I dont lose at least 40. Was that dumb? Well my rate has been really consistent at 10 lbs a month, so i thought it would be okay.

Oh! I also wanted to Celebrate because I am no longer MORBIDLY obese!!! just regular obese. ha

@ Mow - Congratulations on your 80lbs gone! That is awesome.

Yesterday while walking my pooches, a neighbor, who I don't know well, stopped and said, "you have lost a lot of weight haven't you", I just gave my standard reply of, "I'm working on it". When others have commented and have asked how I am doing it, I tell them, "It's a combination exercise, a sensible diet and portion control". No lies, but that is a much info as I'm going to give out.

Good wishes on your forthcoming wedding - looking forward to seeing a photo of you in your wedding dress. s

himow - I bet you will be down that 40lbs by your wedding. That is so exciting..congrats

Viv - how cool to have a random neighbor comliment you like that. I give the same answers when I am asked how I have done it.

steff - that is horrible for your dr to be saying that. everyone is going to lose at their own pace!

Not much going on here except I am eagerly awaiting my first u/s on the 5th! This baby has a horrible sweet tooth and I can't seem to tell him or her no.

It was cool X 2, as this neighbor has been a bit snobby in the past and she also added, "well you are looking great". That was so unexpected and made me happy all day!

BTW - love the baby ticker.

Can you satisfy the little one with a chocolate kiss at bedtime, or is he/she a donut kind of kid?

Well, I had a small fill put in. I told my doc about my trip and my concerns and i think it is a good compromise. This a.m., i had a smoothie, and am fuller than usual. I'll need to stay on top of it!

Hey ya'll.

I went to the doc today was thrilled to see that I have lost 6lbs in 3 weeks. Total lost is now 30lbs and I am officially 25% closer to my ideal weight.

She gave me my 4th fill of .50cc bringing up to 6.75cc in a 10cc band. She thinks this is going to get me to my sweet spot.

All in all, I am starting to feel great. I am less than half a pound away from being at the 50lb loss mark ( since my non-pregnancy highest) So happy...my little man turns four next week and I weighed 270lbs on his first birthday. I can't wait to take a comparison shot.

Yesterday my DH hugged me and said, "You're smaller! I can tell." He called me "tiny". I know I'm not tiny yet but it made me feel really good. He said he can definetly notice a difference in my size by hugging me. I'm going to be asking for a lot more hugs...lol

@ New joy - Good for you, isn't it sweet to now see some results?

@ Dottie - doesn't that make you feel wonderful! All your hard work deserves some good hugging!

@ All - now that most of us are feeling restriction, have you changed what you are eating? I could eat anything until that last 1cc. Now I'm tight in the morning, so only have a shake for breakfast and then not until 10:00a.m. This is weird, but the food that really makes me feel tight is yogurt!!! I would have thought that would slide on thru the band, but no.

I think that 1cc really did it for me, it is a week ago today since I had the fill and I have loss 4lbs in that week!!! Life is sweet.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
