I think the pain will vary with individuals. I always thought I had a low tolerance for pain, but I had a c-section with my youngest and 10 hours after they opened me up, I was pushing my little IV pole down to the nursery sans pain meds. So maybe not.

With my band, they never gave me any pain meds after I came out of surgery because I never had any pain. I picked up my pain med prescription, but never used it because I never had any pain. I was back at work (desk work) for a few hours the day after surgery and back to full days of regular work by day 2, although I did have to monitor some of the things I was doing because of my lifting restrictions.

I'm now almost 4 weeks post op and have not had any post op problems. No pain with eating, although I'm careful to chew well and take small bites. No vomiting. Piece of cake.

Hey there, i also had 2 c sections and they are worse. The lapband for me was only painful due to gas, shoulder pain. I had pain for about 4 days then I was good to go. I hope you have a super easy time. Your banding is the day before my 19 year wedding anniversary :-)

Ditto to the above. I've had one c-section and my gall bladder out, and this was 10x easier than either of those.

I had a bit of shoulder pain the first night and next day, and since then, just a bit of muscle pain around the main incision. I'm on day 4 today and am 95% pain free (just don't tell DH - I'm milking it!)

You'll be fine!

Amy

I agree I had 2 c sections and this is a breeze compared. What annoyed me the most was my nagging back pain from having to sleep on my back for a few days after surgery.

If it is any help to you, I woke up from my banding operation without any discomfort whatsoever. I have had no pain, no wind, no inconvenience at all. No shoulder pains, no feeling sick or vomiting. In fact, if it were not for the little scars I wouldn't think I had had a band operation at all. The only minor discomfort was the stitches pulling a bit as they healed but as soon as they were removed a couple of days ago even that has gone.

I agree that it is different for everyone but I admit I have a very high pain threashhold. However, don't worry about a thing. If it is any comfort I am 60 years old, have heart problems, diabetes and arthritis and still managed to sail through the whole thing without any trouble at all.

I hope and pray that it will be the same for you ((((((((hugs))))))))

You're going to get people that are going to fib and say that nothing ever hurt, ever, but you're also going to get answers from the other end of the spectrum saying that the gas pains were pretty bad, definetly worse than the insicsions.

They will give you pain medicine both in the hospital, and when you leave, so provided that you take it, your pain will be managable.

Just want to point out that I do NOT tell fibs. I have absolutely no reason to do so. If I had felt pain I would have said so. Sheeeeesh

I find it hard to believe that someone can have major sugery and have no discomfort or mild pain whatsoever.

Being psychology major, one year from my degree, I would say a more plausable explanation would be that you've simply forgotten the pain that you had post-op because other feelings or events were more important to you at the time.

People don't just get 5 inscisions and an artificial band placed around one of their major internal organs and have no discomfort after the operation.

Just saying...use common sense...of course it's going to cause pain.

You know I have just finished reading the thread entitled Everyone's 5 New Years Resolutions and now read the above reply. I would not be so rude as to tell anyone what they should or should not post on a forum or doubt someone's word. I think this forum is definitely not for me. But thanks to everyone who has been kind and polite - I wish you all great success with your bands and your weight loss.

And then there was my husband who took about 4 weeks to feel better after his band. HE had a super hard time, lots of pain, lots of discomfort, lots of pain meds and lots of complications as well. I was bandes last Wednesday (4 days ago) and feel fine, a bit of shoulder pain still and some gas but thats about it.

I hurt! OMG, I hurt!

No one told me it was going to hurt so bad. And I do have a high tolerance for pain. I walked around on a broken foot for 3 weeks and the doctors couldnt believe it. I broke my pelvis. I know what pain is and this was definitely painful for me. Thank God for opiates.

I wish I would have had people tell me it might hurt because I sure wasnt expecting it. It felt like I got hit by a truck. They had to give me pain medication in my IV before I could walk, and then they gave me to drink before I left. And I filled 2 bottles of pain meds and drank them both within the week.

Oh, just wanted to add that walking really, really, really helps. So dust off those walking shoes because you are going to need them within a day of surgery.

Please do not try to explain away other people's experiences with psychobabble. I had no pain after my surgery. While still in recovery they asked what my pain level was on a scale of 1 to 5. I told them 'zero'. I was not given pain meds then or in the few hours until I was discharged. Nor did I take pain medication after I went home. I didn't 'forget' the pain. I never had any.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
