I was banded yesterday. I am very sore - especially where the port was placed. Pain meds do not take away all of the pain. I am supposed to drink 5 Protein Shakes today - can't imagine how I am going to get all of this down. Would love to hear form others about how sore they were and how long it lasted.

Thanks

Hi There.

I was banded on Monday. You will feel better daily. The morphine in the hospital only took the edge off. Like you, the port site was my most painful when I would get up and down. That gets easier and less sore, I promise. I think the gas/trapped air issue was killing me. Walking helps alot.

I'm on all liquids until 11-11-09 when my first follow up visit it. Out of 40-55 ounces of non caloric Fluid, 8-12 have to be Protein so I just make one Protein shake and drink it at meal times and just sip throughout the day. All you do is just sip sip sip.

I promise you will feel a bit better each day.

Good luck.

It gets better really quickly -- every day you will see a big improvement! The shakes are just yucky yucky yucky!! Just drink as much as you can and let your Dr. know if you're way off the mark.

Congratulations on your surgery and all the great things you have to look forward to!

Catherine

I was banded on the 20th and I feel better everyday. The port site is still sore at times, like when I get up in the morning or if I am sitting at my desk too long. I went back to work on Monday and for me that has helped tremendously both physically and mentally.

As for the shakes, I find that the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes are the best. I really only like their chocolate thought. The strawberry can be very foaming and kinds chalky. I make enough for Breakfast and lunch, put it in my thermos and throw it in the fridge at work. Once I am ready to have a serving it kinda tastes like a nice cold milk shake. My husband even likes them!

Congrats and good luck!

I was banded 2 weeks ago on the 14th. Trust me it gets much easier as time progresses. I'm still having issues sleeping in bed, mostly because I slept on my side and stomach. But other than that I could be happier with how everything is progressing. Just keep making through day by day and you'll be golden.

The hardest part is now that I'm on soft foods continuing to drink the Protien shake, but gotta do what ya gotta do.

Best of luck to you all.

My port was killing me (I had the surgery on Monday). What really really really helped is putting an icepack over my shirt on that spot. I kept putting new ice/ice packs and i was just fine. I mean...of course you feel it when you get up and move but the cold takes some of the pain away. Good luck

also - my doctor had me on CLEAR liquid diet for the first 3 days and I drank Isopure clear kine (they are flavored). It is 40 g of Protein. Not the best tasting thing ever - but it went down smooth and i was getting my protein in from day 1.

My surgeon told me that the port pain would last up to about week 6 and he was right on the mark.

Congratulations!

My pain was mainly at the port site. It was like a burning sensation. I did use an ice pack right after surgery which helped with the edema related to surgery.

Now, I have that dreaded gas discomfort. I am still on a clear liquid diet until tomorrow morning. Then, I switch over to full liquids for 2 to 3 weeks. I have to drink 64 oz of Water a day, sip..sip...sip... Plus, I am going to make a Medifast shake in the morning to see if I can tolerate the Protein. I can also start skim milk. I hope I can tolerate the Medifast shakes because they are yummy.

Good luck!:)

Ice packs def. helped with the incision and port sites.. I probably used them for the first week, less time each day. I wasn't told to try any Protein until 6 days after surgery and I can't imagine doing it sooner as I was having a hard enough time with Water and Jello.

every doctor and plan is different, but I'd talk to your doc and nurses to see if they would want to adjust any diet stuff for you to make you more comfortable. I also found I needed pain meds more often in the first couple of days, but i didn't do anyting too strong, just alternated adult doses of liquid (children's) ibuprofren and tylenol... tylenol every 4-5 hours and ibuprofen in between.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
