Has anyone else had these last minute "do I really want to do this" thoughts?

My surgery is a week from this coming Tuesday and up until yesterday, I was 100% sure I wanted to do this. I'm not saying I don't want to now, but I think I've been having 'control' issues. Yes, I do admit to being somewhat of a control freak which is probably why I own my own business.

At any rate, for the past day I've been having thoughts that I'm 'losing control' in that once I get this surgery, I no longer have control. The band does. I know...I know. I still have 'some' control, but ultimately, it is the band that controls.

Someone tell me that this is normal down to the wire thinking.

Hi Elfiepoo I am not bended yet my date is 11-16 and I was on the fence for the longest time .Think about how you will be more active like you used to be and that will help you ease your mind.

You are still very much in control. It is your choice to be banded. There is no one else making you do it. You will now be in control of your weight loss. The band will only help you be even more in control of your future.

My band has given me the control I used to have to limit my food intake before my hunger got out of control. I felt hungry all the time and found myself constantly grazing and making terrible food choices. Now, with my band, I'm in control. I make healthy food choices, I'm not grazing on junk food, and now that I'm getting closer to my goal weight, I have energy that I never imagined I could regain. Also, with the band, you do have some control over how tight you want to keep it. I would never want my band so tight I couldn't eat major foods such as steak, bread, Pasta etc. Unfortunately, some people just have a lower tolerance for those foods, and you really can't predict that ahead of time. I would opt for the loosest band that keeps me satisfied on smaller portions while being able to eat the most variety of foods.

This is totally normal. Think about anorexics - the issues isn't the food - it's body image and control.

For overweight people, food can also be a control issue - we will decide what to put into our mouths, how much of it, and when.

So..the band does require that you give up some of that control. The good news is that there's a trade-off. You give up some of that control and some of the foods and you get so much in return.

I see you post lots. I'm sure you've given this so much thought and consideration and done your research. You're doing just fiiiine!

Hi Christine,

Yep...14 years worth of thought and research and once I made the decision, I pushed forward. That's why I'm wondering why, now that everything is a go, I'm feeling so ambivalent.

My husband says it's because I don't like change. I'm happy in my 'rut'...until someone kicks me out of it and then I look back and wonder why I didn't jump out on my own long before.

I think going back and forth is pretty normal, I've been dealing with it myself some. But I just think of all the problems being overweight causes and how much happier I'd be at a more healthy weight and I just know that it's the right decision to make. You have to do what you have to do, and I have to start taking care of myself and this is the only way I can do it. I don't like the idea of not having the freedom to decide how much I eat but I like the idea of spending the rest of my life obese even less.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
