It still hurts after 6 days......

Recommended Posts

Alot more than I thought it would. And if I have to cough or sneeze - I'm in excruciating pain. If I'm perfectly still, I'm ok, but when I move around, I;m in pain. And my belly looks like someone kicked me. I've heard people on here that are fine the next day - I'm still taking the liquid vicodin and see no end in sight.

Am I unusual or does everyone have this much pain 6 days post - op?And you;d think it;d get better with each day, but it's about the same. Am I normal?

Blessings!

Marci

Might be worth contacting your doctor? I was sore for a good two weeks but I could move around without any serious discomfort within 2-3 days. So I guess it depends how bad the pain is? No harm in checking with the doctor?

I agree see your provider. I was rid of my gas pains by day 3 but I walked like a mouse in a cage!

I take small sips & I take deep slow breaths.

I don't know why but I keep coughing & sneezing too.

It realy wierd... I hold my stomach & cough as deep and minimal as possible.

My incisions have some discomfort & I think over time my port will cause pain from what I have read but I feel pretty lucky since I would have to drive 2 hours & go back over the boarder if I experienced any problems...

I'm sure you be fine, stay active!

I ended up in the ER with a lot of pain that would double me over when I moved around. No pain at all if I was laying down and not moving. Found out I was dehydrated. They filled me up with fluids via IV and the next day I was pain free. I now make sure I get my 64 oz. of Water a day and I have been pain free since. It was hard drinking that much at first, but now I crave the water if I don't get enough. If you think you're not drinking enough, try upping your water intake to 64 oz. I noticed the difference by the next day. Hope you get to feeling better.

In some "lucky" cases (like mine) your surgeon will use a retractor to separate the liver from the stomach. I was injured playing sports as a kid so these two organs had become fused. The separation created pain that still hasn't gone away after almost 4 weeks...but is lessening each day. Felt great the day after surgery, but that was really before the drugs all wore off!

Everyone is a bit different as we all had slightly different experiences and different pain responses. Don't feel you need to suffer, though. Great advice there...contact your doctor!

Hope all is well soon!

Thanks everyone. My doc is 3 hrs away, so unless I'm in unbearable pain, I'm not going in. But I did call them today - they told me to take warm showers, use the heating pad, continue with my pain meds and take it easy. I didn't do the treadmill today. I have no clue how people go back to work days after the surgery - I don't work so that helps. I've had 3 laparoscopies (infertility) before and they weren't this bad. The gas pains are pretty much gone, I'm just really sore now.

Thanks for the great ideas everyone! I'm glad I called my doc - the nurse said itwas normal to still be in discomfort after a week.

Blessings!

Marci

Everyone is different. I was one of them that still needed help getting out of bed if I was lying down until almost a week post op. I could go from sitting to standing without help, but not lying to sitting. It just hurt too much. BUT my gas pains were non-existent, so in that respect, I think I was lucky. Take it easy as long as you need to, but move as much as you can.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
