Oh to be a "normal" shape!

Recommended Posts

Just looking through a clothing catalogue and thinking about ordering some clothes but

what size???

When you are not the perfect traditional hourglass shape it can be really hard.

According to my measurements

Bust 98cm = size 14

"Waist" 92cm = size 18 - 20

Hips 97cm = size 10!

no wonder I have so many problems buying clothes, especially trousers. If they fit the "waist" they just fall off the hips etc.

Problem is that I don't see this problem being resolved even when i get to goal. I am never going to be an hourglass I will always be an apple and most sizes are not designed for apples!

I was actually a more "normal" shape when fat, lol. I've always been pear shaped, and whilst I was at my heaviest, I didnt have the gapping round the waist problem that I'd had when I was younger - things fit my thighs and bum and then have 10 inches to spare at the waist.

I've noticed a *slight* return of this problem, although I'm better proportioned now because of the running.

However I was trying on bathers yesterday in a room with a 3 way mirror. I can look and like what I see now, imperfect as it is. But it honestly from the back looks like someone else's fat arse has been grafted onto my body.

It goes: long neck, graceful shoulders, fine shoulder blades, narrow waist, pleasing muscle tone in the back, WHOA LOVE HANDLES, cellulite, DIMPLES, SADDLEBAGS, toned thighs, nice knees, nicely shaped carves and slim ankles.

Its sort of problem enough that I'd thought of Lipo (which I know wont get rid of cellulite) but the advice I've had is that buttock skin after weight loss is usually of not good enough quality and firmness to cope and that the only answer is a buttock lift.

Have you seen the scars from a butt lift? Horrid. And way way too high to wear a bikini that is any way fashionable.

Sigh.

I think the best bet is to learn to love what we are, and just be able to look around you and realise nobody else is perfect either.

But I agree, its much easier to be a pear. You can always get the waist altered.

Boy is this thread true! I had to laugh because as I started to lose weight I rediscovered my shape again. I had forgotten what I looked like in high school!!! I'm fairly "small" (relatively speaking) through he shoulders and bust, have a waist and hips that flare (10 inches difference between my waist and hips). Guess I'm an hourglass with less sand on top??? I guess my original shape will never change, but thank goodness for Right Fit jeans and pants so I no longer have a huge gaping waistband!

i wish i was normal shaped too. even with the amount of weight i have lost, i have such a weird shape that i havent really been able to buy smaller pants. and let me just tell you how funny i look! to fit my waist without producing the biggest muffin top of all time, my pants are way too big in the legs and butt. and its just getting worse! i cant wait for my Tummy Tuck and lipo!!

i have really slimmed down up top, my chest and arms are nice. my legs are nice. (all relatively speaking, at least tons better then they were!) but my stomach area...OMG! while it is smaller then when i started, its still nasty. love handles like no other, big ol' rolls. and now we are adding some new rolls just under my boobs that didnt used to be there. all i can say is thank god for plastic surgeons!

elcee, i feel your pain! its very frustrating.

I have this same exact problem! Im about a 12 in the waist..and about a 8 in the hips?

I weigh 178 right now and Im still not rightly porportioned!

I carried my weight all in my stomach at my heighest weight (326)

I am now looking into a TT which I hope that I can get done this December!

Buying clothes is sooo hard! Maybe after this tt I will be able to buy clothes that flatter me!

Well I guess I am an hourglass shape or maybe a pear or an apple, not sure which I am.. LOL I have a large butt and thighs and barely a belly(except for the excess skin from 2 kids) I don't have huge shoulders but am a 38 C. I have never had huge rolls or a prego looking belly. I am a 16/18 jeans and could probably wear a 12/14 if my hips and butt fit my waist. I will always have a big butt and will have the gap between the back of my pants and the top of my butt. LOL I have never really been skinny and has always had a big butt, but hopefully when I lose more weight it will be a little better... LOL But the one thing I am deathly affraid of is the excess skin on my inner thighs and I heard that ps is the hardest....

I wish that I knew what my shape is??? I have very small shoulders big boobs even after a reduction, the smallest waist imaginable a round tush and then the dreaded thighs!!!!! No matter how small I get I still have thighs, it is so maddening. I look into body sculpting and it runs about 2K per leg!!! I also looked into another thing that runs about 2K total, it is a type of ultrasound?? I guess we should learn to live with what God gave us, but sometimes it is hard.

I love my right fit pants, the problem is, I am at the smallest in them (1T blue) and can't find anything else that fits properly. I have curvy pants from the GAP, but the dang thing "gap" really bad at the waist....It sucks, because you wait so long to NOT shop at Lane Bryant and then realize nothing else will fit properly once you drop below those sizes.

I am a classic apple. no butt, no hips, no legs, but man do I have a waist. So yes buying pants are a challange. If you go online to Lane Bryant, they have a clothing line called Right Fit. It is color coded, we are Yellow. If you are shaped like we are then you can buy pants that are made with the larger waist and thinner lower half. I have personnally tried these on and they are perfect. They are not cheap. But you can get jeans and business clothes as well. Good luck!

Confused. As far as I am aware apples don't have waists - they are normally wider in the middle than above and below.

It is good to know that i am not alone in being such an odd shape though. For the moment I will have to stick to buying pants and tops and avoid trying to buy dresses. If the pants are designed to sit lower then they are not too bad.:(

well I'm a 40-29-40 right now. Unfortunately that makes me three different sizes still. And I"m 5'4...and in between petite and regular inseams...I think to get anything to fit right you have to get it tailored...lol

My savior has been Faded Glory Jeans. I have a couple of pair of 18's that had been in the closet forever and I was so excited in March when I was able to get them on again. They were tight but I could wear them. Now I am in a comfortable 12!They are at Wal-Mart designed to instantly  slim and only 12 bucks. I don't want to spend a lot until I am more settled in the weight. Since they are stretch I can still wear the 18's around the house or to run to the store. Avenue seems to have things cut a little smaller, my girlfriend gave me some 16s from there and they are snug. I am 44, 40, 44 I try to look at Dress Barn, Fashion Bug and Cato because they all have plus size on one side and smaller on the other side of the store. I still need the larger tops and some of the 14 jeans fit from the "small" side. Dressier slacks are not something I have found yet. A 16W is just to big and I haven't found a 14W yet, a regular or misses 14 is to tight in the thighs and hips. Burlington is next on my look for it list. I thought about starting to sew again, but my measurements have me over 3 different sizes! I am 5'2, with a really flat butt, it had a shelf on the top, not as bad as it was.

CrzyTchr -

I am in the size 3 Right Fit so I only have 2 sizes to go yet before I'm not shopping at LB either, so I was worried about the same thing. BUT my daughter-in-law works for Fashion Bug (you can shop online with them) they are a sister company to LB and they carry Right Fit as well, in plus and misses sizes!!!! Fashion Bug stores here are 1/2 misses fashions and 1/2 plus size - so they specialize in both sizes for women.

HTH!!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
