Now having restriction before first fill...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I was banded July 15th and suppose to go for first fill next week. I have noticed in the past 2 weeks or so, that I can only eat a little at a time, but get hungry shortly there-after. Seems like before that I could almost eat as before..is that normal to seem to have more restriction as time goes on? When I eat meat and some other foods, I get that lump in the throat feeling even though I am taking small bites and chewing really good. I almost at this point feel like I dont need a fill. I have lost about 20 pounds in all. Just wondering if this is normal. As far as I know, I didnt get any fill during surgery.

Thanks!

the first thing your doctor will ask you when you go in is.... are you hungry...if the answer is yes,you need a fill... the eating little is normal, we are only supposed to be able to eat 1/2-1c a food 3 times a day (most people, some have different rules)..you will go up and down on your thinking bout fills, one day you don't think you need it, the next day you are starving to death.. keep your appt is my advice!!

Stress level and other enviornmental factors have a lot to do with your restriction. Some days you will feel tight and others you will feel like you could eat your way through an entire buffet line. Personally, I wanted that first fill no matter what. It was just a matter of how much. I was actually a little paranoid on my first fill and ended up having to go back and get more because I was too reserved the first time around.

I am having the same problem. I was banded about a month ago and felt restriction for about a week or so. (probably from swelling) then didn't feel any restriction. The last few days I feel restriction and some things feel like they get stuck in my chest. I havn't thrown up and it will pass on through but I am sopposed to get a fill in a week and I don't know what to do. Some days I feel hungry and some days I don't. I am really scared of getting over filled and having problems. I didn't think I had a fill but my friend who was banded by same surgeon and same band told me today they put 3 cc in at surgery. I guess I will have to ask about this at my next appt. My DH doesn't want me to get a fill, since he is scared of problems but I havn't lost any weight in a week. I guess I will explain how I feel to my surgeon and get his opinion.

I was banded on 7/28 and was supposed to get my first fill yesterday. I havent been hungry and am losing at a good pace, so I ended up not getting one quite yet. I made another appointment for the end of next month, but will have to call before then if my situation changes, so yes it does happen.

definately talk to your surgeon. You shouldn't be getting hungry soon after you eat. I had my first fill on this past thursday (and was banded on 7/7) and when he asked I told him the truth...that I could definately eat less at a time than before surgery but WAY more than I should...and I was getting VERY hungry very soon after eating...all of that means that you need a fill. You might only need a SMALL fill, but your doc will determine what's best after talking with you. And let him/her know about your concerns with being 'overfilled'...they'll make you drink a cup of Water after they give you the fill and if it's too much they'll take some out...

Goodluck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
