Frustrated w/ myself!!!! Support......please

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I've been banded for a year in Sept. I've lost 40 ish pounds. Which I was ok w/ for awhile but I haven't lost anything since march. It's my own fault. I have been eating the wrong foods, not exercising, & just not following my plan. I don't need a fill, I'm not hungry. I don't know what my problem is.........I just can't get my head back in the game!!!! I feel like I used to feel before I was banded. Like I have NO CONTROL. I'm eating the wrong foods & I'm eating when I'm not hungry. Any advise please & thank you.

It is so hard sometimes to get motivated and I am sure after awhile it is even more difficult. I got a little down a couple of weeks ago and I re-attended one of the seminars my surgeon gave and answered questions and talked to the people who were considering the band. It really made me feel good to help them and helped me remember why I am doing this and how I felt when I first began my journey. Also, have you talked to your surgeon or staff lately? Even though you feel that you don't need a fill, maybe they can help you with nutrition or exercise plans to help you get jump started again. Good Luck.

Heidi, let me suggest that you track every little bit you put in your mouth and what time of day.

First, it will be in black and white what you're eating and when. That's an eye-opener, for sure. You may realize that you are falling to temptation more at a certain time of day, for example. And that particular problem could be overcome by changing what you do during that time of day, what time you eat your meal, or something else just as simple!

Second, you will have a list of what things you seem to have no willpower to resist. You will probably need to just not have those items in the house, at least for a little while. Again, it may be a surprise to find that you are consistently eating a particular food more than others, all that you should be avoiding.

And, just at GrReytz says, go to your doctor. You may think you don't need a fill, but it doesn't mean you don't need to be accountable for what you're doing. Talk it out with the doctor or physician's assistant. You may find you do need a small fill, who knows? And ask to meet with the nutritionist while you're there. Take your journal with you. The nutritionist may be able to help you deal with some of those food issues by suggesting replacements, different eating strategies, etc.

Hi Heidi,

I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling.

I'm not saying this as a spokesperson of any kind, but just want to offer up that Overeaters Anonymous has really helped me recognize and begin to address my head hunger and food addiction. At first I was afraid to go (this was before being banded, at the suggestion of the surgical center psychiatrist), but after that first meeting I felt a change in myself. I can't say I attend meetings regularly, but when I am struggling it is a place I can go that always helps me get back on track.

I think there are some threads on this site about OA that you might want to look into also for more info. And the OA website has a handy look-up tool to find meetings in your area.

Wishing you all good things,

Valerie

All great suggestions. I would also add that you might want to see a psychologist that deals with eating issues. From reading your post, that could be something that helps you deal with the food issues you have going on and will help you get back on track.

Best of luck!

I am in the exact same boat as you are. I was banded 10-08-08 and have lost and gained the same 10 lbs since Feb. I have lost about 60 lbs or so but I hit 50lbs on Valentines day. My band is working, I have restriction. When I eat what I am supposed to eat I get full quickly. When I only eat when I am hungry I dont eat much at all. I am very weak for ice cream and chips. I am going to try the overeaters annonomous meeting that someone recommended and I wish you luch in getting in the right frame of mind to succeed. I hope to get there myself soon.

Karen

I am having the same problems. Like u said it is head hunger. I've been snacking and probley too much wine.I need to get my butt exercising.I was banded 4/08 and have lost 70 lbs.,nothing in 5 months.I've noticed that has been the time when i stopped exercising too. I feel like I've let myself get back in the same old rutt.Ya know it is mostly mental work and sometimes thats the hardest thing to control. So hearing myself talk ,guess I need to change my head and get my butt working.

Glad to hear you're doing better! For me, just going back to the gym for a week straight does the trick!

I'm just back on the losing train again after stalling for a while. Just make up your mind to use the band the way it was meant to be used and change your lifestyle. It does matter. You're worth it!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
