I need some help, and don't want to depend on a laxative all the time. How/What are you eating to keep you regular?

Ahh..my favorite subject..FIBER! I drink well over 64 oz. of Water a day and workout for about 90 mins. 5X's a week...and I'm still always 'backed up'. On a camping trip over 4th of July weekend I went 4 days (I'm a two a dayer kinda gal) and was in so much discomfort and pain. Once I finally did pass a BM,I ended up with a hemoroid that still irks the well, crap out of me...lol. I make sure I get my 5 servings of fruit and vegies (2 fruit/3 vegies) and I eat my 2 servings of whole grains...if I don't reach my target of 30 g. of Fiber by then I'll add a fiber One Bar or some other fiber enriched bar...and still...here I sit knowing that my battle against being 'regular' may never be won! lol:angry:

Each day I try to have a serving of metamucil, Activia & a high fiber Cereal. I don't always drink as much Water as I should, but I keep trying. Some days it works, some days it doesn't. I think I may start taking mineral oil.

Well, to be honest, i dont do the Protein first thing. We're not told to here in Australia anyway, but my diet is based on wholegrains, fruit and vegetables with more modest amounts of Protein and I stay very regular.

The thing is, there may well be weight loss advantages with high protein, low carb, and it may well not have the dire effects on your blood chemistry that such a high fat diet would be expected to have, but its shocking for your bowels.

I think is someone is having a problem, they should talk this over with their Drs. Doctors know more than we do, I would think. I also was a "2/per day" kind of gal and always very, very regular, not any more. So I keep Milk of Magnesua on hand and try to get all my Water in, and move as much as possible. Some times it's good and some times not. I never let myself go over 2 days without a BM. I will hit the seneca (natural laxitive). that's what works for me anyway. Also dried Apricots. Those will always do the trick for me!

I'm the type that has to be very diligent about fiber and I"m less than 3 weeks post op... but trying. I have been putting wheat germ in my yogurt each morning ( I tried flax seed but the flavor- ick! - also - dr. said to avoid seeds too...). I shoot for 20g. per day for now on soft foods. I have a type of bean/ lentil Soup or main dish (soft of course) for at least 1 meal per day and my eas myloplex lite shake as 5g per so that helps as well.

I'm not a huge meat eater to begin with but finding I might end up going vegan to ensure I get my fiber in given such a small space for food. Beans seem to be the only way I'm going to come close to getting my fiber in every day.

Try Fiber One cereal, some Benefiber Water packs that you add to you Water, fruits & veggies. Should do the trick.

If necessary, use s stool softner and MOM every once in awhile.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
