For me, it took walking, gas-x strips, and time. I am 6 days post-op and have minimal discomfort now. It has gotten a little bit better everyday. Hope you are pain free soon :smile2:

There are 2 types of gas pain. One is a result of the surgery from the co2 that is pumped into you, which is usually felt in the shoulder or back. Only walking and time will help that. The other is in your internal organs, which gas-x can help.

Everyone is different on how they heal. I was lucky that I didn't suffer much from the gas from the co2. Maybe it had to do with my surgeon only making one incision. I'm 2 months post op, and I'm still taking gas-x. There's no pain - just the frequent urge to fart. Sigh!

I keep a food journal, and if anything notable happens, I also enter it, like whenever I exercise - still a rarity at this point, any discomfort I may experience (it took a week before I could get in/out of bed with our major pain), when I noticed the swelling start to go down (10 days), my fills and reactions to them, how I handle certain foods, etc. The food journal helps keep me on track. Any discomforts experienced along the journey so far are just a distant memory - although I did have my first sliming experience yesterday - and the excitement of seeing the scale go down keeps me going, even though at times it not moving as fast as I would like. Each day is a new experience.

I had really terrible gas pain in my left shoulder for the first 9 days post-op. I called my surgeon on a Sunday and he prescribed me something, which helped minimally. In addition to the Gas-X and Milk of Magnesia I was taking and I was walking outside 10 minutes every hour!! Finally someone recommended I take the chewable Pepcid Complete, and that really helped!

Erin, Gas-X will help gas in your GI tract. The gas you are describing is probably from the darbon dioxide they pump into your abdomen to make more room to work. It will go away on its own as it is absorbed into the blood stream and then processed out by your body.

To help in the mean time, keep moving. Walk whenever you can, as much as you feel up to .... and move your arms. Someone on another forum I belong to said her doc told her to sit in a rocking chair instead of on the couch and rock. She said it helped in addition to everything else. And that pain does respond to heat....a heating pad, a hot shower, etc.

And, yes, it really will go away!

Padanelle- i know, i think the gas is almost out now, it feels like theres just one bubble that needs to come out now thank god

same here haha, would apple juice help get rid of the consitpation too? i have mots light and i put Water in it, should it help me to go?

ive been sleeping in the recliner for 4 days, i went back and forth to me bed and the recliner, and the recliner won, wish i had one of those beds like the hospital.

what is sliming? my scale moved quick, it shocked me

Brittany8018- i think i had the gas pains in my should too, but it comes and goes tho, stinkers

im walking every hour, but not outside, just in the house for now

im not sure if i should take those (chewable Pepcid Complete)

ParrotheadCathy- im pretty sure the gas is from the surgery that they put in me, i have 5 insicions.

i cant wait til it goes, but i need to go #2 and i know i have too cause its making that strange noise. i bet when i do go itll feel 10 times better

rocking chair does help but the cat stole it from me right now, i love the heating pad, it feel nice

I don't know about apple juice, but pears, grapes, papaya & figs are all supposed to help. When I complained about Constipation to my nutritionist last week, she said that since I am eating so much less, its perfectly normal not to have a BM every day; every 2 or 3 days is fine. The problem is, it is so uncomfortable if I miss a day, and painfull if I miss 2 (TIM). I have been taking metamucil, eating probiatic yogurt, and drinking certain hebal teas. Its still a learning process to see which work best.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
