Has Any one else experienced this?

Hi

I wanted to know if others have experienced this and how they handled it. I was banded back in March 2009. I had a few port problems and some trouble finding the right restriction but I am finally there. I have been losing two pounds a week, so not a ton but it is slowly coming off. ( I keep telling myself slowly is better than nothing. Right?)

So here is the problem, I can not get myself to shop for new cloths. I know, I thought this would be the most fun part. I love to shop. My cloths are falling off of me but I don't want to try on a new size. I am worried that a smaller size won't fit and then I will get discouraged because It has already taken such a long time. I had long time girlfriends here and we were in a store one of them had gastric and I was telling her that I would never try anything on in that store because I would be afraid it wouldn't fit. She said the reality of it is it probably would. I wanted something new for a concert and went to a plus size store bought the smallest size then had to keep pulling them up all night because they were to big.

Am I crazy? Probably but is there anyone else out there who deal with this while they were losing their weight?

Just try ONE new outfit. Go from there. I had a big problem shopping for sizes that were going UP. When I was gaining weight. The smaller ones looked rediculous on me.. I looked better and felt SO much better in clothes that fit right. The same applys to you going down. To big of clothes look odd too. Why come all through this if your not going to show your real YOU?

No you're not crazy. I went shopping back in May for a wedding I had to go to and I wanted to grab a dress and grabbed a size 24 because I figured that's what I would fit into. Much to my shock a 24 was way to big, I grabbed a 22, that was way too big. I grabbed a 20 and even that was too big. So they convinced me to try on an 18 and OMG it fit perfectly. WAnna talk about shock. I couldn't believe it. I still can't believe it. My pants size is a 22 right now and I still have it in my head that I need a 26 or a 24.

So while I understand your apprehension in buying new clothes, you've got to get out there and buy new clothes that fit you better. You can't go around with your clothes all baggy and falling off you. I really think you'll be surprised when you go shopping and see the new sizes you can fit into!!!!!!

shanny! Good job so far!

I don't feel the same, but reading the last poster gave me a possible idea for you.

You mentioned that the clothes in the Plus Size stores are now too big. Well, go to a department store that has both sets. Start in their plus size section and get the largest size you feel comfortable getting. Move on down until you find the size that fits you.

However, likely you are too small now for even those. So, then go to the Misses section of the store and try on the largest size on down. Usually the Misses section will have up to a size 18 and XL.

Maybe that will give you the courage to try on some new clothes. Regardless though, you should feel damn proud your wearing any size smaller than you were when you were banded. I know it's hard to get our brains wrapped around the idea, but I'm sure if you do go try on new clothes, you will be so glad you did.

Also, make a day trip out of it so you don't feel rushed. Savor it!!

The Diva's got it right! I went to Dress Barn ... they have plus sizes and others as well. The clerks are very helpful. I explained to her that I'd lost (at that point) 60 pounds and needed a dressy outfit for my high school reunion as well as some basic things like black slacks and a dress. She looked at me to guess size, went and got a bunch of stuff and put me in a dressing room. Some things fit, some needed to be a size up and some needed to be a size down (gotta love that size down, LOL). I walked out with a really cute top, a pair of black slacks, a killer dress-up outfit for my reunion and a really pretty dress that I probably would never have even tried on if it hadn't been in with all the other stuff.

It's an ego boost if what you try on is even one size smaller....and you're probably looking at several sizes down. You don't need to buy a lot because you're still losing but sweetie, you SOOOOOOO deserve something cute and fashionable so you can show off!

Good luck... Heck post a picture in a new outfit for us!

This is not slow! This is exactly the rate that it is supposed to come off at. You are doing really well.

I just worry when I read comments like this as it seems peoples expectations are not in line with the reality!

Oh, yes, clothes shopping has been very enlightening for me. I keep leaving the stores frustrated because I can't picture myself in anything cute. It is the old mindset of 'That'd never look good on me.' Also, I keep selecting outfits that are predominantly black. Now, I have to keep reminding myself 'No more black outfits.' (except pants). I've lived in predominantly black clothes for over 20 years and I'm tired of it.

Don't get discouraged. Did you ever imagine you'd have a problem looking for clothes in a smaller size? It is a good 'problem' to have.

Best of luck to you.

Clothes shopping may take a little more time now because we may have to try on different sizes. Enjoy the process.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
