I was banded on Tues July 28th. Everything seemed to go perfectly smoothly. Waking up in recovery was a very painful experience, and my tummy still hurts. I am hoping the pain will subside soon. My big question is this: I have huge bruises all over my stomach were my incisions are. there at least a 4 inch radius of a circle, if not bigger. On my side by my hip I have a HUGE 6 inch long by 3-4 inch wide bruise. This is just a random weird spot for bruising I would think... unless the doc during surgery threw a breif case at me. Is bruising this much normal.., when my DH saw the bruise on my hip he flipped. Has anyone else had this experience?

no... i had no bruising... but here is a guess... could it be the extra heparin (blood thinner) that everyone gets during surgery???

there are a few nurses on this forum...Restless Monkey and Unforgettable... you should get some firm feedback on this question. Good luck

I would check with your doctor with this concern.

I had bruising around the incisions only. You had me laughing, imagining the doc throwing a brief case at you while you were knocked out :crying:

I had really bad bruising all around my incisions. Big purple bruises, pretty much my whole stomach was a bruise, and they were a little scarry looking. I didn't have any bruises on my hip though. I did have bruises everywhere they poked me though. Took weeks for it all to go away.

I was banded the same day as you and I have a lot of bruising too. They are around the incisions, but I have a mystery bruise too! It is on the lower part of my stomach a little bit under my belly button. It is funny, but I wondered the same thing - if something wierd happened during surgery that gave it to me haha! They are already starting to yellow, though. I think it is just how our body responds to the trauma of the laprasopic tools.

Ya' know they are digging inside your belly with BIG STICKS! The bigger your belly, the bigger the sticks. I'm a Nurse and I cant stand to see liposuction on TV, all that jabbing and poking. If you have ever seen how the doctor's jiggle your insides, NO WONDER WE HURT.

I can hardly wait untill mine is done.

I too had a strange bruise on my left hip. It was about 3 inches in diameter and purple. I have no idea what that would of been from either. I have small bruises around my incisions.

I HATE HATE HATE watching liposuction on t.v. I'm also a nurse and that, and a nose job, are the two things that absolutely gross me out!!

Maybe it was where the doc used his knee so that he could get better leverage to pull the tools back out! Only joking.

I remember reading another post where someone said she was so bruised she was convinced she had fallen off the table.

So what they really do when we're in surgery is anyones guess!

i have a similar bruise in the same spot! (i was banded 7/27) it's right above my hip bone/joint.

i also have some bruises where i received heparin (sp?) shots. and i imagine it's where my port is - there's a large bandage still covering it but there's a bruise working its way out from under it.

I only had a single incision, but my entire belly was black & blue. After surgery I noticed a burning, tingling sensation in my right thigh. I asked the NP about it when I went for my post op check-up & he said its probably a pinched nerve, which may be due to the position my leg was in during surgery. Hmmmm....

I had very minor bruising at each incision. I didn't have any other unusual bruises, but I was fully awake when I went into the OR and I remember just before they put me to sleep the nurses were strapping me to the table, there was a buckle going over my left hip, maybe something like that happened and you bruised because of it.

I think I know what caused the bruising on the side of your leg. I had my surgery yesterday and I remember yelping in pain as they took an extremely sticky something off the side of my leg. It was about 6" long and 3-4" wide. When I cried out the anesthesiologist said, "oops, I guess I brought her out a little too early" He also asked the nurse to show me the sticky thing then said, "she probably won't remember anyway, but please show her." Well I did remember and it hurt like hell. I didn't bruise but I definitely can see how someone would. It felt like I was getting waxed but it was 20x worse pain. I'm happy I shaved my legs before or it would have hurt even more

How very interesting,,, I bet there is some weird mystery sticky thing they put on us all,,, but since were under no one remembers.. I am now 10 days post op and I still have the glimmer of the bruise. I showed my doc at my 1 wk apt and he said some people look more banged up then others. That was his only comment. I do think its like cooking something, they put all sorts of things in us and stir us up. At least the Gas part is mostly over,

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
