yeah, i'm doing low carb, just cuz carbs are what i'm "addicted" to... i can pass on the sweets anyday of the year... but put a baked potato/loaf of brown bread/bowl of mac and cheese in front of me and it's all over.

i'm ready to let go of that addiction once and for all.

My doctor and dietician like us to follow a high Protein low carb regime. By low carb, I mean they recommend under 60 gm a day, which has been totally doable. They don't say "don't eat any carbs," they just say try to eat the good complex carbs versus simple, and like everything else do it in moderation. I am totally addicted to all types of carbs, so it's been nice to learn how to eat them in moderation. Plus I have insulin resistance d/t PCOS so it's been helping keep my symptoms at bay as well.

I plan on doing a low carb routine once I get to regular foods because I have PCOS and shouldve been moderate with carb intake all along! :D But I think the fact that some long time bandsters have experienced problems with the breads, pastas, rice (which were like crack for me!) is enough to scare me straight because I really don't want to bring on a PB or stuck episode eating that and its not the best from a nutritional content perspective. The band is really going to help me with that enforced behavior modification I have needed to step away from those foods because in my mind there were no real ramifications before the band...

I am trying to stay away from carbs as well. That is what my doctor has recommended. Carbs are definitely my downfall. Tortillas, potato chips, Pasta .... I have done fairly well so far... My family had chicken alfredo and salad for dinner tonight. I am still not suppose to be eating anything raw so I made myself some stirfried veggies with chicken breast. I put maybe two table spoons of alfredo over it and I was totally fine avoiding the pasta. My husband suggested next time I make the chicken alfredo with veggies for everyone.

when i get back to eating i plan on doing the "right" carb vs. low carb- it ends up being low b/c the carbs come from veggies, fruit, whole grains, like Quinoa- which has 9g of Protein in it! My doctor recommends the Eating for life program, which is outlined in a big book with tons of right carb and right mix recipes. his patients have tremendous success and excellent weight loss for this. our family follows a simliar program, the eat clean diet- eatcleandiet.com which has cook books for men, families, kids and regular recipes all again based on right carb- veggies, Proteins, whole grains. loads of recipes in both books. and a great way for healthy eating

I have been on low carb since 2 weeks pre-op. While I am totally sick of the shakes, I see the benefits. I think I will be able to start the mushy stuff tomorrow after my 1st post-op appt., but my dietician still wants me to do a shake a day and maintain the low carbs.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
