PCOS keeping me FAT!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm new here and I haven't yet been banded. I'm scheduled for surgery 7/3/09 with Dr. Ortiz in MX. I developed PCOS after the birth of my 1st child (who is now19!) I was 17 when I had her and began having symptoms of PCOS within a couple of years. By the time I was 25 I was 180 lbs. and I'm only 5ft 1in. The PCOS made it very difficult to get pregnant for a 2nd time, but we were able to do so on our own after 3 years of trying and happy to say we have a beautiful 9 year old son and a 19 year old daughter. I'm sooooo hoping that the Lap Band helps me to lose weight. I'm fat because I have PCOS and I have PCOS because I'm fat! HOW FRUSTRATING! I don't have too many of the symptoms, but I do have acne and several chin hairs that are annoying. I'm really hoping that the band is the answer for me. I'm not afraid of hard work, which I know is required to succeed. I'd really like to hear some other stories of ladies with PCOS after having been banded. Thank you!!!

HI Tish,

I have PCOS and was banded in Feb 2008. I have lost about 55 pounds and many more inches. It has been the best thing I have ever done. I still have alot more to lose. I am off the metformin but now how developed a fibroid tumor in my uterus more than likely related to my ovaries trying to work again and not ovulating.

THe negative to this is that it is a slow process. There is no easy fix with those that have PCOS. Our metabolism is slow due to a lack of an enzyme to metabolize insulin. I don't eat alot but still not loosing. I have also had the port become displaced twice and scheduled for surgery on Friday. It is not a big deal but still frustrating. Follow your surgeon's advice and you will do fine.

Hope this is helpful.

hi! I too have pcos. I was banded a little over two months ago and I have lost 33lbs so far. I feel wonderful. I also developed pcos after the birth of my daughter (she is 13 now) and I was 20 at the time. I did have a little trouble getting preggers with the second (I had a miscarriage), but then had a healthy baby boy who is nearly 2. I can attest that the band can help thise of us with pcos!!

good luck and keep us posted!

Hey Im 19 and I have PCOS. I was banded on may of 2009 and I really havent lost much weight. At the beginning, my weight was just slipping off of my body, but then for some reason, some of the weight came back. I never stopped exercising, so I must be doing something wrong. Im still getting adjusted. Its hard. My sister who also got banded the same day as me does not have pcos, she does not exercise, ever!!!, nor does she watch what she eats. She has sweets atleast once or twice a day, eats what ever she wants and also eats out a lot, like pizza and red meats, no fruits nor veggies. Her big thing is red meats and sweats. I wont lie and say shes lost a lot of weight but she has lost about the same amount of weight as I have, which frustrates me because I do Portion Control, I eat a lot less than she does, and I dont eat sweets or eat out, or anything like she does and I exercise a minimum of 4 times a week. Its frustrating, but coming up here to these forums helps a lot and gives a lot of motivation. Just dont lose hope!

I have PCOS and got banded this week (June 14). I have already lost about 20 pounds in just 3 weeks. I have had PCOS for 3-4 years now and have not been able to lose more than 1-2 pounds ever and kept getting fatter actually despite my efforts to lose. So I'm really really excited that this is working for me and I wanted to let you know so that you can feel good about your decision. Best of luck to you I know that with the hard work you can lose it!

I have PCOS and had difficulty getting pregnant, too. We were blessed with one child (my beautiful now 2.5 yr old daughter). I wanted to lose weight before we tried to conceive again. I was banded 3 months and 4 days ago and have lost (half a pound shy of) 60lbs.

I was so worrried that I wouldn't be able to lose the weight, especially since I struggled for years and years with it. I was also worried I would get the weak, shakey, lightheaded/dizzy feeling I got if I didn't eat a lot and eat often enough. All these fears have been for nothing.

Good luck!

I had my lap band surgery in May 2009. I lost 33 lbs right away and have stayed at the same weight since then! I also have PCOS and I could not lose weight before the surgery. I am frustrated that I am "stuck" at this same weight. Has anyone else had this problem?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
