Dr. Kuldeep Singh - Lovin' This Practice!!!

Recommended Posts

I was banded by Dr. Singh March 24, 2008. Dr. Singh was the third WLS surgeon that I investigated. I chose his practice for a few reasons: 1) I felt comfortable with Dr. Singh; his “bedside manner” put me at ease. He likes to make jokes – corny but funny ones, 2) I was confident in his ability to get me through the surgery alive – trust me I read everything I could about his practice. I wanted to know the statistics on patients lost, infection, and anything else I could find out. One thing I really liked was that Dr. Singh actually trained other doctors to perform this surgery AND (and this is important people) he likes working through the smallest incision possible. I have enough scars and I really didn’t like the idea of getting five more, 3) this practice made you jump through all the hoops you’ve ever heard of – which although it can get to be annoying, I knew that if I could pass all of the specialists evaluations that I had a better chance of surviving the surgery, and my last reason 4) there were no extra cost for crap that I did not need or lived too far away to properly use. The other two practices that I checked out wanted at least $2,500 for extra stuff – like gym usage, nutritionist visits (up to two whole visits!!!) and support group meetings. One of the doctors I checked out even charged for fills! I was like, ”Well what the hell am I paying for insurance for?”

Anyway, I really am thankful that I chose Dr. Singh. I have a friend that went through Dr. Averbach, whom Dr. Singh used to share a practice with and she recommended him, but I chose Dr. Singh. I could go on and on about this, but if you really want to know about my journey, you can check out my blog or any of my posts here on LBT.

I was banded the day after you, 3/25/08, also by Dr. Singh. If you attend the group support meetings, we have probably tripped over each other. I was the one at the June meeting that Cathy presented the 100 lb pin to, if you were there. Say hello at the next meeting. I have short brown hair and am usually wearing scrubs (except now instead of 2X they are size small--yes!)

I chose Dr. Singh on the recommendation of my sister, whose RNY he performed. She loves him, and so do I. I told him on one visit he was responsible for my drinking and driving! I carry a Water bottle everywhere, even in the car.

I live in Harford County, and I mostly walk for exercise. I go to Mariner Point Park in Joppatowne almost every day. The squirrels are really happy to see me (I carry peanuts) and I meet a lot of nice dogs, and people. I have gotten more fresh air since surgery than I ever had before.

Good luck on your journey. See you at group.

Hi! Loved your post, quite inspiring! I was banded the day after you by Dr. Singh. I think he is fantastic! Congrats on your 100 pound loss! I've been stuck for the past 6 months, I was too tight and it caused a lot of problems and had to get practically unfilled. I go Thursday for another fill - first time in months!! Thanks for the inspiration and congrats again!

I just got banded by Dr. Singh on January 15th, 2010. I think he is great. He's quirky in a good way and seems to really care. Also, my incisions were much smaller than most of the pictures I've seen.

Congrats Bjackson! What I love about Dr. Singh is he actually wants to communicate with you and will let you e-mail him directly or call his cell phone! I have never in my 38 years had a doctor who gave you his cell number! And, I had a problem a few months back at 3 A.M. and guess who answered the phone....Dr. Singh himself! It's amazing!

@ pacthelton, I have not attended any support meetings because I live 2.5 hours away from Dr. Singh. However, I may come down for a 100 lb pin. If I do I will send you a message, I would love to meet someone who was banded right after me!

@ caramia 71, I’m sorry to read about you having problems. I know that can be scary and frustrating. But just the fact that you have a surgeon who really cares about your well being is such a BLESSING. I tell anyone who says they are thinking about the surgery about Dr. Singh. He is wonderful and so worth the five hours I spend driving back and forth to get to and from his office. A drive I’ll be making soon (I just got a postcard informing me that I am due for a checkup). I’m ok with that – I really meant it when I named this thread I’m Lovin This Practice.

@bjackson – CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! Being banded is a wonderful thing especially if you make it to Onderland (or so I’ve heard). I am desperately trying to get to Onderland myself. I’ve got 36 lbs to make make 199. Have a wonderful journey – don’t rush it. Listen to Dr. Singh – as you know – he really knows what he’s talking about!

Enjoylife congrats on your huge success! What an inspiration you are! I agree that Dr. Singh is worth the drive, thankfully mine is only 45 minutes one way. I have never met a doctor who gave you their cell number and actually answered it! He's the best and I'm glad he's worked with me to get to the bottom of it. I know I'll be back on my way in no time!! Thanks for your response and good luck with the rest of your journey!!

Ok, Ladies, some of these emails are making me nervous. Slippage, refill, unfill, too tight, not tight enough, and some who have only lost 25 lbs in one year. I need some more Maryland words of encouragement if I am going to go through with this surgery. Any real regrets with having the surgery, or just the usual adjustments? Thanks, Nena61

I was banded June 09 by Dr. Singh. He's a great doctor, usually late for appts but he is busy w surgeries! He is very easy to talk to, very reassuring, nice, and a good doctor. I do miss Mary in the main office tho, she was very sweet.

Do not b nervous! I have only lost 41 since my surgery but i have not gained and any loss is a good loss! I did not keep track of my calories and i had some set backs in my life (broken leg, mom passing, etc.). Most importantly, keep a food diary on one of the on line sites (i use myfitnesspal.com). Dr. Singh suggested 1,200 calories a day and it works!!! i have had NO slippage or issues. You may need your band adjusted but that is very normal. He does not like to fill it too much (especially at first) until you are well healed and ur stomach is ready. I went back several times for fills and/or adjustments, but it is a very easy and quick thing. You will know when u need a fill by how much u are eating. If u keep track of your calories right away, u may never need a fill. Do NOT b like me and not do the food diary!!! I'm finally listening to Dr. Singh (who asked me last week why i don't trust him. HAHAHAHA!) and keeping count of my calories and i'm losing each week!!!!

feel free to email me anytime if u have questions or concerns: patti932@gmail.com

Hi everyone, I have a band but it was not done by Dr. Singh. I found him because he did my daughter's sleeve surgery. I love him. He is so funny and has a great bedside manner. I started using him because my surgeon stopped taking my insurance. I have only lost 33 lbs. Its a kinda long story but the short of is, I was banded in 2008, after my first fill the dr said he isn't taking insurance anymore and I couldn't afford the fill without it. I tried 2 other surgeons and they told me the port had turned and I would have to have another surgery to put it back in place. I just gave up at that time and sat for 3 years doing nothing. Not gaining not losing - nothing. After my daughters surgery I asked Dr. Singh about a revision and he asked it he could try to fill me and he did!!! I couldn't believe it. So, since March 22, I have lost 33 lbs. I go on June 28th for another visit and hopefully another fill. I hope I have the results you all are talking about. I'm so glad everyone is doing so well. Joyce

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
