new bandster on the block

Recommended Posts

23yrs old, currently weigh 140kg & I am 1.77m tall. Insulin resistant with a family history of diabetes.

:-) Got banded yesterday at Bedford Gardens with Dr Sofianos, 15 May 2009 @ 14:30 it took 66mins & I was out. Went for the x-ray to see if everything was cool immediately after surgery & then went to the ward to rest. They put me on a drip because I was not allowed to eat anything. I was given two injections; a pain-killer for the discomfort & one to prevent nausea. Nurses were extremely helpful as I struggled to move & get up to go to the loo. The discomfort was bearable. Feet got cold @ one stage but they had a contraption (sort of like a boot) that pumps air into it essentially massaging my legs for circulation. Slept well.

Woke up & told myself I got to get up & walk around. Was okay lol definitely not a walk in the park. Got discharged today @ 10:30. Doc told me to take it easy, to see him next week Saturday to examine the incisions & to follow a nutritional liquid diet (clear soup) & plenty Water only. He didn't tell me how much though but reading the "post op diet" on this site Enlightened me.

Total cost so far: ZAR75000 (expensive yes, but I worked out I spent the same amount of money for 3yrs prior to this; following diet plans, taking pills & injections that I just gave up on)

So far: Stomach feels a little bloated ( I was told it is normal-gas that gets trapped during the procedure will disappear after 2-3days)

Passing wind is uncomfortable. Laying down now but also get up to sit for short periods of time. Notice how intense the change in position is on the body.

Left side - under breast particularly tender.

Throat hurts coz of pipe during procedure.

Taking the pain killers & Flu medication. Doc has told me to continue with the flu meds & I should not worry.

I do have muscle pain - shoulders. :scared2:

Stretching as much I can & doing a few breathing exercises with light coughs. Remember this from a previous operation (on my bladder), physiotherapist forced me to cough lol so brutal.

So far so good. I am excited to becoming a better version of myself.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
