Banded for 7 months and now too much restriction

Recommended Posts

I was banded Oct 2008 and never felt much restriction. I lost 50 lbs in the first 4 months then gained 9 lbs over the next 2 1/2 months. I went in for a fill last Tuesday, and may be overfilled. I don't know if this is what restriction is like or if this is too much. For Breakfast I had a protien bar, lunch: 3 bites of a naked chicken taco (then threw it up), snack: 5 doritos (then threw it up) ...scared to eat dinner. I lost 7 lbs in 5 days, so I don't want to lose the restriction. I am scared that I am not eating enough though. I am going to put myself back on liquids for a day or two then try solids again. I want to keep the restriction, but be able to eat small meals. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Karen

I really think you are either a tad too full or you haven't adjusted to restriction yet and need to adjust your bite's size downward and chew a little more. Being overfilled is miserable and ultimately unhealthy, even with fast weightloss as a quick pay off.

Best wishes.

Mimi

you have the right idea. go back to liquids for 24- 48 hours. Let the swelling go down. Then just remember bites the size of an earser on a pencil and chew! now in the morning i often get full on just yogurt. i usually can't even finish a whole one. But in the evening i can eat about 4 oz or so. But i would call your doctor because it couldn't hurt to get some taken out.

sounds like you are a little overfilled. this has happened to me on my last two fills...you should call your dr and see if maybe they can take at least half of it out (that's what i normally do). after i do that i feel fine. it is miserable not being able too eat hardly anything. i know when i am overfilled because every thing i eat bubbles up in my throat and sits there. i know how you feel...you dont want to stop losing the weight but you might end up being dehydrated and making it worse....

hope that helps! good luck!

I agree about going back on liquids for a day or two. Will give you a chance to let the swelling go down and really find out if you are too tight or not. If you are drinking liquids and not having trouble, this is the way I would go if it were me. Now, I've been too tight, way too tight, and had some taken out the next day. I couldn't keep down my own spit. I also know that I will never get a fill around the middle of my cycle, ovulation or whatever. Never ever again. I am ALWAYS tighter during that week of the month. Keep this in mind also for when you are scheduling fills. This is pretty common. Like right now, I'm not hungry at all all day long, and when I do eat, it is very little, because I get stuck. But last week I had no trouble eating out for dinner with my family, a whole chicken breast and vegetables.

I had a problem with a band that was too tight and slipped. I started to have problems in August of 08, but had corrective surgery to install a larger band in Feb. 09. It took that long to really have serious negative effects from not being able to eat well. The problems I wound up with were low potassium levels from the nausea and really bad Constipation. Like emergency room bad. The point being, that some restriction problems that last a few weeks may not be an emergency. But you need to know yourself and how you feel and whether it's really bad. But you won't have a problem overnight.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
