Antidepressants/antianxiety meds helping weight loss

Recommended Posts

Does anyone think antidepressants or antianxiety meds are helping them make better food choices? If so, what meds are helping?

I was taking Xanax to get me through a tough time and when I stopped, I found myself tempted with food in ways I didn't care about before. I restarted the Xanax after a week. My doc is switching me over to another medication (Busiprone) so I can get off Xanax (which can be addictive), but I'm worried I'll make bad choices again once I stop the Xanax. I'm also on 10 mg of Lexapro. Or maybe it's all unrelated to my food choices?

Hey there-

if you dont mind me asking, how long have you been on the lexapro? Lexapro made me crazy. I had to get off of it. They say Lexapro is more fast acting but doesn't work very well long term.

As far as the weight loss etc, I dont have any advice. But I did want to share that bit of knowledge with ya. Good luck!

Hello - I have been taking Zoloft daily for years due to my anxiety issues. I also have a prescription for xanax if I ever am having a really really bad day! - I just got banded march09 and I'm doing great. I have not had any need of the Xanax but I always take my Zoloft daily and it keeps me even and very stable. I think being on the drug may have caused me to gain weight thru the years! So if your doctor thinks you don't need to be on it anymore that's great!

best of luck with your band!

I've got to agree with LJB on the weight gain thing. A lot of them say they cause weight gain in the list of side effect. I've been on a variety of psych meds through my adult life and have always found I put on weight with them, or maybe it is just eating away my depression??

I'd say to follow your doctors orders. Even if the xanax is helping you, being addicted to it is not worth it. You will lose the weight anyway...it may just take longer.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
