the "wonderful" things people say about the surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello, I know i shouldnt dwell on it, because, i must consider the source, but is spoke to a neighbor today who i had not told about the surgery and he was 'chock' full of great information, such as, remember, you cant go back to your old ways, because you will gain the weight back, and 'you know, many people gain the weight back, you must be very careful". I guess it was the unsolicited advice that annoyed me the most and that it was coming from someone i didnt even tell!!! it just put me in a down mood for the rest of the day...i know i have to prepare myself for people to say unhelpful things,, but i just wasnt in the mood for it today!!

If you didn't bring it up, why did he? If you didn't tell him, what would posess him to just start in about lap band surgery?

i had told one of my neighbors, and i guess i was mailbox chat one day, you know, i def. dont care that they know i had the surgery, but just to start in on the negative 'heresay' really bugged me, i just thanked him, and quickly got off the phone and said "Happy Easter"

I have to say, while I am a person who "tells" about my surgery, I would be 1. horrified if a neighbor actually CALLED me..and 2. Ticked like you are at unsolicited advice. I hate that. He's lucky you were so nice!

I would have told them that while I appreciate the concern, I really don't want to discuss it with them. It was not appropriate for them to offer you advice when you have never even told them about it in the first place.

I love it when people who have no "experience" give advice!

Many people just don't understand.

Not everyone is going to be supportive of your life change.

So stick to those who are until you can deal emotionally with those who are not.

Wait for those who are not to see the good changes that come in your life.

I made the choice to have the lapband because I felt that was the best option for me.

I wouldn't change having the surgey if I had it to do all over again.

It has changed my life in so many ways.

I am proud of the hard work I've done to ge there.

Some in my family have not been so supportive and have said things like if just changing how I eat and how much I eat was all I needed to do to loose weight I could do that without having surgery.

That family member is @325 lbs herself!

So I just don't talk to her about my surgery or lifestyle change.

When she says something to me I just remember the 50 pounds I've lost and revel that I can do things I couldn't do before. I can wear clothes I couldn't wear before I had the surgery.

Don't let others rain on your parade!:cool2:

Keep your chin up and keep moving!

thank you everyone, i knew that posting would help me, and it has....i think it is a matter of people not being educated about the band and what good it can do for people, some people just like to focus on the potential negatives...have a Happy Easter

And again... a poster after my own heart! I am NOT the only one! ;o)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
