Gained weight during pre-op

Recommended Posts

Did anybody gain weight during the pre-op period while on the supervised 3 or 6 month program?

Did you have problems getting approved because of it?

I have heard that people have been denied for that reason.

The pre-op diets help to show that you are committed to lifestyle changes and also to decrease the possibility of having a fatty liver during surgery. Lack of weight loss or even a gain can be considered lack of compliance and they may consider someone a poor candidate for weight loss surgery because if they don't follow the program post surgery, they may not lose weight ir be successful. Some insurances have a pre-requisite of losing a certain percentage of body fat before they will give approval.

If this has happened to you and you are still on one of the 3 or 6 month diet plans, you should buckle down and try really hard to get some weight off. If you are compliant and just not losing, see if they can modify the plan slightly and if you can increase your Water intake or exercise routine. Good luck.

Hey Vikki~ I gained during my 6 month supervised diet and got approved the first time. I have BCBS of Alabama. I was worried too, but as usual I worried for nothing. Good luck! I can't wait until my surgery date.

Actually, the best way to be sure on the requirements is to check with your insurance carrier. If it is just to complete the program with no mention of weight lost, they you may still be approved. However, if it has outlined specific expectations on loss, it might be a different story.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
