What is your food weakness?...

Recommended Posts

... and has the band helped you to overcome those cravings?

My food weakness is the potato, in all of its various forms. More specifically though, chips. Potato chips have been my favorite food, for as long as I can remember.

In the past, I've been known to sit down with a large bag and finish it off in less than 30 minutes. I'd have still been hungry afterwards.

I'm amazed by how long a bag of chips can last in my house now lol. The bag currently sitting in the cupboard, has been here nearly 3 weeks and is still half full.

After picking my daughter up from school one day, I was having a huge craving for chips, so we stopped at 7-11. Got two tiny bags. Less than halfway through my bag, I was completely stuffed.

I'm loving this band :) heh

I'm the same...love the humble spud in all its forms lol :) I was hoping (praying) that chips (my absolute weakness) would not be possible with the band...are you saying you can still eat them, only a little bit? That could be dangerous....

My fav is pnutbutter which I can't have in the house b/c I'll eat an entire jar w/a spoon.

But chips and chocolate are the best.

Can't wait to be banded so I can eat normal portions as well, I'm hoping to stay away from this stuff for as long as I can LOL.

....I grew up (or is that OUT) on bread & butter, spuds & gravy....more bread....dough balls rolled up....pizza..more bread...flour tortillas were nice...pasta--about a 1/2# at a time....garlic butter bread anything

Me too Jack. There were 9 mouths to feed and the cheapest way to fill the bellies was to stuff it with bread. I don't think there was a meal with out a loaf of bread on the table.

A quick US-UK/Oz/NZ translation: US chips = crisps; Oz chips = US french fries.

My weakness? Ice cream. The band doesn't help with that one! But it helps with everything else, including spud madness and pizza.

CHOCOLATE...CHOCOLATE...CHOCOLATE...Anything in the form of chocolate is not safe around me. I am finding out that I have control over these temptations and my band has helped me remember that...but recently I have been caving over certain things. I just threw out a cheese cake...I bought it to Celebrate our wedding annaversary...and well it just was in there and every night I was taking a slice, and a cup of coffee to the couch. It wasn't JUST cheese cake..were talking topped with chocolate chips...caramel...cookie crumb crust...pecans...Turtle Cheese Cake...YUMMY...but OOOOOO SOOOOO BAD.. I think two or three nights went by and I realized what I was doing, and I threw it in the garbage. Then I had company coming over and I wanted to have something to serve to nibble on...sooo I bought a box of Pepperhage (SP?) Farm Chocolate Delight assorted Cookies. Well, I kept eatting and eatting and eatting them.....So they ended up in the garbage too. I haven't been eatting as I should as a bandster either. I have been woofing my food down, been getting stuck...almost PB'ed for the first time the other night. Soo I am taking it back down to mushies for a couple of days till I get myself in check. I go to my doctor on Tuesday and I know he is gonna yell at me if I tell him all this...however, I have been able to continue to lose weight. I have not added anything to the scale. I have been under constant stress these last few weeks AGAIN.....and my stomach just can't handle the stress....I haven't been eatting but maybe two meals a day if that...and then some junk in between. It feels better to talk about it, cause I have been holding it all in....cause I know I was doing wrong......but now I am going to regain control and keep those tempting foods out of my house for good. I just went food shopping and did a good job at it.

thanks for listening!

hamburgers-loooooved cheeseburgers-now they are impossible to eat.I love chips but in doses and now they too are a hard thing to eat.My absolute fave thing in the world was Milk Duds and now they will never be again-the caramel and chocolate would kill me-I refuse to even try.

re: " cheese cake..were talking topped with chocolate chips...caramel...cookie crumb crust...pecans...Turtle cheese Cake." :)

No offense here....but this stuff don't even sound tempting....now, if ya were talking fried dough with butter or a loaf of really sour sourdough bread or a potato pancake I'd be slavering....

maybe....

:lick

Jack, thank you for that little blue face at the end of the quote...too cute....Thats what I should remember the next time Im tempted to buy one of those cakes. Does sound like a lot of stuff going on there, but all the flavors and textures complement one another. Dont get me wrong, I love fried dough and sourdough bread w/butter (and many many many other things)....but that cheese cake had me under its spell....If I hadnt thrown it out, I would have killed it all by myself!! I can't have that....sooo in the gar~bage it went....damn shame too..

No particular foods really - although I love plain, sweet biscuits (cookies), I can eat those dunked in my coffee by the packet full. I love anything sweet and cakey, although its not a regular part of my diet.

My problem is more, I'll be eating really well, then I'll have something I shouldnt, like a muffin and a cappucino. I think "oh, well, blown it today" and really go all out on whatever happens to be available. Or I go out for dinner and think "might as well really enjoy this and start again tomorrow". Of course, our lifestyle is such that this happens several times a week, whether it be dinner out or mum's lamb roast or a takeaway one night. We had pizza Thursday night because I'd done no grocery shopping, we went to a function Friday night so ate and drank a lot, takeaway Indian last night as I'd studied all day and today we're going to have fish and chips on the beach down at Sorrento in melbourne with some friends.

It just all adds up. And Ewan has his friend Sam staying and no doubt they'll want pancakes for Breakfast so my thought process will be "may as well since today will be a write off anyway".

LOL .. yup, I can still eat them, but very slowly and one at a time, rather than a small handful at a time. It takes alot of the pleasure out of it, thankfully.

I have a real problem eating hot chips now though, so that's a good thing.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
