I noticed we're all starting to have NSV's (Non-scale victories) so I thought we might like to share with our January Hottie friends.

We're all fitting into smaller clothes, no longer fighting to fasten our seat belts when driving, and crossing our legs in comfort.

Mine's a strange little one -- I can wear certain shoes of mine again. When I was at my heaviest, my feet would swell and I couldn't wear my prettier or dressier shoes. Even my sneakers were no longer possible. I was stuck wearing Crocs clogs or flip-flops so I could just slide something on and didn't have to grunt and bend over to tie a shoelace.

Now all my Crocs are too big, even at the end of the day. I tie on my sneakers by myself, hop off the chair, and I'm out the door without a thought.

What are your NSV's?

Feeling good when I exercise and not like I'm going to pass out. Also, getting compliments by co-workers who say I'm inspiring them to get healthy!

My biggest NSV Has to be Feeling great during a workout. At first I fought the notion of exercise. Then my daughter and I joined a club and with her help I went from 20min on the elliptical machine to 40min. Now we do even higher resistance. I never thought I could do this and I am really enjoying it. It's also is a great time with my 19 year old, skinny as a rail daughter.

Another one is wearing rings that I haven't been able to fit on in years.

Also I had to go through my bags of "I can't fit into these clothes" this morning!

Sorry if this is TMI but I've stopped getting friction issues between my thighs like deep boil-type infections, ingrown hairs and uncomfortable sweating. I had major relief and I've lost only 20 pounds. Thank goodness I'll have lost even more weight by summer.

Only someone else who has experienced that would understand. I too have noticed that when I walk, there is not a small brush fire going on between my legs. I was shocked that my thighs weren't rubbing together. It felt great. I also noticed that my wedding rings are getting loose. I will continue to rely on NSV, to judge how I'm doing. The scale changes day to day, and it really is not important too me.:huh2:

I don't have to get out the lotion to take my wedding rings off anymore. Pretty soon I am going to have to get a ring guard because they are going to start falling off! There is a good foot of space between my tummy and the bottom of the steering wheel and that is really cool. My shoes are getting too big. I'm just not puffy anymore at all. So nice.

Has anyone else noticed a change in their skin? I don't know if it is all the Water I am drinking or what, but my elbows aren't dry anymore and my heels are soft and smooth for the first time in years.

And most importantly, I have SO much more energy!

I really didn't know how bad I felt until after surgery and I started feeling better. :)

Pickle, I feel exactly like you do -- just didn't realize how crappy I felt till after surgery. Now I feel amazing -- and I can't wait to feel even more amazing as the weight keeps leaving. My dog has more room on the love seat when she sits next to me. DH and I recently went to a local auditorium and for the first time in over 15 years I had room in the seat and my arms reached the armrests!! I guess I had too much fat in my belly to reach them before. That was truly an eye opening experience. I don't know if any of you had this problem, but even on a plane I could not put my arms on the arm rests -- it was so uncomfortable! Linda

Running out of time on the gym treadmill ( 30 minute timelimit) before I run out of steam!

Woohoo! It feels great to NOT want to get off that treadmill!

I met with friends who have not seen me since September 08 and one of my friends stayed in her car while I was outside of the restaurant because she did not recognize me

Hi everyone! THis is a very inspirational thread! I am wearing a size 18 jeans today - nearly three sizes smaller than back in january! (Before surgery I was squeezing myself in to my 22's each day and rally should have gone to 24's, just couldn't bring myself to!) And an 18/20 shirt instead of 26/28!!

YEAH!!

How exciting! Sometimes you have to look through someone else's eyes to appreciate how much progress you've made.

I was a size 28. Today, I'm wearing my size 22 jeans. I keep looking at my "goal" jeans-- a pair of black leather size 18 jeans I bought over ten years ago (!!) when last I was at 205. Thirty pounds to go before I dare try them on.

Today was a strange NSV. I'm having a garage sale this weekend. A gentleman older than myself walked up while my DH and roommate were inside. The customer was a flirt! With me! I froze like a scared rabbit for a few moments until he started teasing and I knew the answers to his riddles! Then my husband came out and the sweet thing had the most disappointed look on his face.

Someone flirted with me. I'm still in awe. It's been thirty years since a man flirted with me.

This is so true considering I still do not see it. I think I maybe getting there though. I used to be a size 26/28 for bottoms and a 3X for the top. Well today I went to Kohl's and they are having an amazing sale! I found pants size 22 which I thought was my size and I also found another pant that was a 20 thinking let me see just how long it will be until I can get into these. I did not have to wait long because the 22s were big and the 20 fit just right! WOW! So I bought them, jeans, and a 1X top. The other great thing about this shopping trip was that one of the pants were $14.00 (60% off). Kohl's also gave me 15% off and a $10.00 coupon to come back with.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
