I am scheduled for surgery on June 11 with Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey, Mexico. I am really surprised how I am doing on my liquid diet. Sure, I am hungry, but I don’t feel like I am starving to death like I thought I would be. I hope this is a good sign for future behavior. I am a strong person most of the time so as long as I can get through the rough spots relatively quickly I am confident that I can use the tool of the Lap-Band to its fullest! Good luck to the rest of the June bandsters out there!

Ohh Im using Dr Rumbaut too. Youre the first person I have met on here who is using him. Are you getting the single insision surgery? I wish I was going on the 11th. Im the week after on the 18th. It would have been so nice to know someone....

Hi everyone

Well I am now banded. I had to go into Western Private Tuesday at 5pm. I had no idea what time my surgery was scheduled. Well I ended up being Dr Nottle's final patient for the day. I went into theatre at approx 9.15 - waiting around for so long was awful!

I believe that all went well. I had a minimal amount of shoulder pain and some tenderness around the port when I came to so they gave me more drugs and I was painfree the whole night. This didn't mean that i actually got any sleep though. What with being on a narrow bed, in an uncomfortable gown with some machine measuring my BP and then bleeping like crazy at me all night I don't think I managed to get more than about an hour.

I didn't have any nausea the first night which was great but have it now. Yesterday morning my arms felt heavy and shaky which I think was due to low blood sugar so was given some apple juice. Wow that tasted good although when you try and drink more later it starts being very sickly as it is so sweet.I started to feel nauseous whilst still in the hospital so they gave me another drug via the IV. Can't say this has helped though. I still feel nauseous whenever I am in any position except for lying down.

Left hospital at about 10.30 am yesterday and have been vegging around the house. Have walked around a little bit but find it hard due to the nausea.Pain is well under control.

My hubby very kindly decided to sleep in the spare room yesterday so i had the bed all to myself. It was great. I normally sleep on my side or stomach.I used a pillow next to my stomach which was a tremendous help - I was able to sleep on my side with no pain.

At the moment I am not hungry and have also been burping quite a lot. Will have to try to get some kind of Protein down a bit later. At the moment I am sipping a cup of warm tea and hoping that the nausea eventually subsides. The noises coming from my stomach at the moment are incredible.

So I am now on the other side and on my way:thumbup:

elcee, congrats and glad you're home. mine was Monday at about 11:30 a.m., also stayed overnight. Although I had no problem sleeping. I had a lot of nausea first day which they said was from the anesthesia. So i'm glad i got the unexpected overnight stay, at least they were able to give me something for the nausea. Have not had any since I've been home. The belching is interesting though. No problem getting anything down, just every once in a while make noises...No pain. Didn't sleep well last night but I think that's because I slept all day after getting home...duh.

Glad you're feeling fine.

Hi all just got home from the hospital had my surgery on Tuesday morning! I am sore around the port and have a good bit of nausea and dizziness and I found out the hard way that I am allergic to morphine! I look like someone decked me in the face several times and now look like I have a red raccoon mask on and I itch all over. Fun stuff this is I now get to take benedrill to take care of that. I have had Jello and broth so far is all and will be on that for about 2 more days then to full liquids. How is everyone else doing?

Sorry to hear about the morphine reaction. I found i was itchy after the op especially around the nose and was told that was probably a reaction to the morphine. I'm glad my reaction wasn't as severe as yours.

Hope that goes away soon.

If anyone knows of a cure for the nausea please let me know because it is driving me insane. I probably need food but am feeling so sick i am struggling to get it down.

Hey elcee, I heard someone say that crackers can be part of the mushy stage cuz it pretty much melts in your. But if I'm nauseous after I will suck on a cracker like I did when I was pregnant so I wouldn't throw up. Hope you feel better soon.

Just a question---so we've all been working towards our goal of actually getting banded, then what?? Besides for the obvious lose weight. Ya know like when people get married they have all this busy work to do for the wedding, then the honey moon, but then there's a let down--all the work is done now what? I know that is when the post-surgery depression comes into play, so I'm just trying to figure out what to look forward to (besides the hum-drum of everyday eating and working out) so I might be able to head it off at the pass. When my doc says I can I'd like to do a 'boot camp' workout for at least 3 months, but I'm not sure I can afford it cuz of surgery and time off work w/o pay.

Any thoughts??

spudmama, be careful on the boot camp thing. If you're not in decent physical shape, it's not pretty. My daughter and her friend who is a marathoner did boot camp in NYC. The friend ended up with a torn rotator cuff and my daughter ended up with a messed up knee from climbing over walls.

Just my input. I'll stick with bike and stationary bike...lol (esp at my age)

astera, sucky way to find out you're allergic to morphine. I guess you'd never had surgery before? Mine was on Monday and I had the nausea pretty back on Monday, but they kept me overnight because of sleep apnea and at least was able to meds for the nausea which I wouldn't have at home. That passed by Tuesday andin drinks actually feeling pretty good. But I get Jello, Soup, Protein. and I've been using a bite of applesauce to get meds down.

Go it does get better. Best part...no appetite or hunger...yeah!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
