OMG I ate a hamburger!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Went out to dinner last night at Fuddruckers. I dont think I have eaten a hamburger in about a year or so, so I was up for the challenge. To me, it is always too much work to eat it and I actually have a preference for turkey or chicken. Since I am in the house all the time since my PS, I was thrilled to get out and about. Since my partial unfill during surgery, I have little restriction. I am not too worried about it, since the majority of the time, I have been pretty good about sticking to the bandster rules and I do need the extra Protein and the slightly bigger portions to help me heal. My surgeon said that I could have a fill within the next two weeks after my next visit if I am still doing well.

I ordered a 1/3 pound hamburger which is the smallest on the menu with fries. I added mayo, mustard and catchup, lettuce, Tomato and a little honey mustard sauce. I cant beleive that I was able to eat the whole thing minus half the bun. I could even fit 5-6 french fries with nacho cheese sauce on them down the gullet. I was mortified!!! But it tasted so gooooood. OK, now that I have indulged in my bad girl once a week pure evil hamburger, I will go back to my regularly stationed program and behave..... No wonder I have a band.......

Yummy! It won't hurt right now to get those extra calories in, so good going! My hubby doesn't like Fuddruckers (?) so I don't get there often. But the burgers are very yummy!!!! I wonder how much of one I could eat? Nah. Too much weight left to lose! :D

This might sound gross to you, but everytime someone ate something I wanted, I would ask,"Do you mind french kissing me after your next bite?" I had 5 chicken fries and 6 french fries last night...too much fat. I won't try that again. I will hold out for something good!!! UMMMMMMMMMM hamburger.......

Good for you- we have to live it up sometimes. As long as you can control the urges & keep it down to once a week - I say WHOOHOO & Enjoy.

Maybe when I get closer to my goal weight I'll give myself a once a week meal too.

Hi,

I have always been like that guyWimpy in Popeye.

"Ill gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today" LOL

I love hamburgers, so this could turn into a big problem for me. Perhaps I should give myself more credit for self control....... I actually feel like eating some veggies, shrimp and tilapia today, so there is hope still.....

I too love cheeseburgers and when we go out I simply take all the bread off and eat what I can hold of the cheeseburger, lettuce and Tomato. It satisfies me and I get full quickly. I usually eat a couple of DH fries. He doesn't need all of them!!!

That sounds so delicious, I didn't eat hamburgers very often before my surgery, but I kick myself about once a week thinking, why in the heck didn't I have a great big, juicy, mouth watering, jumbo burger, dripping with mayo and tomatoes as my last feast before my band. Oh well, too late now, I couldn't even imagine taking a bite, it'd be pb/slime everywhere, LOL.

Have another for me before your next fill.

Okay, why were you mortified?

A 1/3 pound hamberger is 5.333 oz weight precooked. We all know that the burger is going to loose weight in cooking. A good bandster size is 3 - 4 oz and you had at most 5 oz of meet.

you had 1/2 a bun. Not the entire bun, not a load of bread, you had 1/2 a bun.

You had 5 or 6 fries. Not 15 or 16 fries. Not 25, not 55. You had 5 or 6 fries. I don't know if they are shoestring like McDonalds or a bigger cut, but you still JUST HAD FIVE OR SIX, not the entire basket.

No cheese! Hello? How can you eat a burger with no cheese?

This was your first burger in a year?!

Okay. Why are you mortified again? Because you are eating like a regular person? Zoe, get your boot please. Babs, you are healing right now, not trying to loose weight. Your body needs the extra Protein and the extra calories.

I don't want to hear "I can't believe I ate the whole thing" because you didn't eat the whole thing.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
