Hello everyone I wish....

Recommended Posts

I wish my first post would have been introducing myself and maybe asking a question or two, but no I panicked because I was told I had to get an evaluation done on me. I am talking a mental evaluation before they submit to my insurance.

So I apologize for that, thanks for the 2 responses though.

My name is Ray (well not really, but close) I am 42, I have a BMI of 40+ and I am going to do this, I have made up my mind. I have hypertension and type II diabetes. Ever since turning 40 I think of death a lot. It has to be my lifestyle, I drink and eat a lot. I go on and off diets for the last 20 years (I was voted most likely to be on a diet over and over again at my technical school). I have to admit I am getting a little nervous but I have to do this to take care of my family, I have 4 kids and my lovely wife of almost 20 years.

I am looking forward to getting one of those tickers that keeps track of my progress, and updating pics as much as I can. I have read a lot on these forums so I don't really have questions yet, but I did want to introduce my self in case I do have to ask something when the date gets closer. Right now I am just waiting to hear from my insurance.

One thing, when I had that evaluation the psychiatrist asked me If I would commit suicide by doing this, I told her "I am doing this to live, I am doing this to to see my son and daughters start a family, I am doing this to see my grandchildren." She then approved me.

Talk to you soon.

I was self pay, and so I examed myself. I still am not sure how much the lapband has helped my appetite or not. I did it because I was very close to full blown diabetes and have no insurance, so I knew I had to do whatever to turn things around. Its going to be harder if you have to battle insulin out of control, because that put on a lot of my extra weight, not just food, but wrong food. So, the only way to succeed is to also pretty much start eating better foods, not just how much. Good luck. Its up to you how well you do. I wanted to live longer too.

You sound like really want this and THAT will help you succeed!! As you will read over and over the band is a tool not a "fix" but I have to tell you it has been a blessing to me. I have not had to "diet" thus far and am doing pretty good. I have changed my eating habits, portion size and my food choices, all with the help of determination and the band.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Good-Luck to you on your journey and tag back to read more info to help you as you go!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
