Weight loss prior to first fill

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is my first time on this site. I hope these forums will help me through my new journey but until I can get a feel for the different topics I do have one question.

I was banded on January 30, 2009 so 4 weeks tomorrow. I lost, starting from the first day of my 5-day liquid pre-op diet, until last week a total of 15 lbs. However this week I haven't lost anything and have been hovering around the same 2 lbs but still haven't lost any more weight since last week.

Can this be typical for the first few weeks post-op?

I have my next appt. with my surgeon on 3/12 and I assume I might get my first fill then.

I just don't want to get discouraged.

I was banded two days before you. It was exactly the same for me. Many on here as well as my doctor told me it is perfectly normal.

Same here I was banded on the same day as you and I have been losing lots of inches little of weight!! I Talk to my doctor and he told me that it's normal so just keep working out and try to pick the most healthy foods to eat. Your fill is when you will get some restriction says the doctor. I've only lost 10 pounds since surgery and 5 of those came off the first week so I feel your pain!!!

I was wondering the same thing. I was banded on 2-19-09 so I am just 1 wk out. I have lost 4lbs on that week, well actually in the first 4 days and now nothing. I know that my dr. filled my band during surgery. I was wondering what the "typical" weight loss is within the first month of being banded. I go back on 3-23-09 for my 1st fill.

Also does anyone have any ideas for soft/mushy foods besides the normal mashed potatoes and creamy Soups? I am getting very very burned out on those things.

Thanks

Don't worry about not losing much weight your first month. The first month isn't about losing weight, it's about healing. You are lucky if you lose any weight during the first month. I lost 15 lbs and gained 5lbs the first month. My Dr. told me it was all normal. I didn't do much better after my 1st fill either. Dr. said it may take a few months and a few fills before losing weight and feeling restriction.

My second fill was when I started to lose the lbs and I felt the restriction. Now, I am losing 10 lbs a month and have lost about 30 lbs post op. (My surgery was December 3rd).

Relax and be proud of yourself.

hola and welcome!

This is totally normal and totally sucks! LOL (I sound like a valley girl...totally) I got real discouraged. I was banded on Jan. 27th, lost 20 pounds the few weeks preop, etc. Then....once I started putting solids (mushies, etc) back in my mouth

SCREEEEECHing hault. That damn scale froze. THEN, it went up 3 pounds. So, I listened to everyone on here and started moving more! We have been walking now and I have started losing again. Slowly...but as long as its moving down...thats all I need.

My first fill is Thursday, so I look forward to hopefully filling a little restriction after that.

Good luck.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
