1st Fill Today!

Recommended Posts

I'm sitting in the waiting room @ the doctor, anxiously awaiting my first fill. I'm a little nervous about the lidocaine pinch, but I'd rather deal with the temporarily than halt weight loss permanently! I've been sitting here 45 mins and still haven't been called back yet. Thank goodness for LBT or I'd be bored out of my mind!

Just wish my surgeon wouldn't schedule all LB patients on one day a week. That may've worked when he first started banding, but this is my 3rd reschedule due to a long wait conflicting with my university schedule. He only works LB Wednesdays and I have a quiz in Calculus every Wednesday! Guhhhh!

Well luckily I dont have that problem with my doctors office. They only deal with bariatric patients. Fills are nothing to be concerned about. I live an hour away from the office so being over filled would not make me happy. I personally take a Protein Bar with me. I get my fill, drink some Water take a walk and very slowly eat my Protein bar. If all is good then I go home. I think drinking just water then leaving is dumb. We dont eat water...lol. Good luck:thumbup:

I hope everything went well (or will go well...not sure if you've been in, yet.)

I had my 2nd fill yesterday (6cc's in a 10cc band) and I am TIGHT today. I mean TIGHT. I couldn't even drink my Protein shake at Breakfast. Dr. said no food for 72 hours...and I don't think I'll have a problem with abiding by his orders.

Neither of my actual fills have hurt at all, though.

Just had my 9th fill yesterday. I think I am at 8.5 or 9cc in a 10cc band. I stay satisfied most of the time. But I eat an entire apple at a time, lots of chewing though, I did not eat any apple till I was 12 months out.The issue now is the more I exercise the hungrier I get. So I tend to eat about every 4 hrs. 8 lbs from goal. The liquids for 2ays and then mushies for 2 days is what my doc instructions. My fills tend to kick in on day 6, for some odd reason. So be careful even though you go back to regular foods after 72 hrs. Hopefully you will stay tight from the fill for weeks.

I don't think I have waitied at the dr longer than an hour, reg appt with a fill. Unless he may have been behind schedule from across the street at the hospital. Good luck Fills are a piece of cake, for most drs anyway. Don't let him stick more thatn two times, then ask for the FLouro x-ray. It is much easier, assuming they have a machine available at their office.:)

I usually wait 24 hours before i go back to Protein Shakes since I have an PPO PLAN and i have to pay $20 for the office visit and $15 coinsurance for the fill under xray..thank God my visits/fills are every 3 to 4 weeks

My first fill is tomorrow! I'm excited and nervous. I definitely feel like I need some restriction because for the past few days I've been able to eat anything. I don't want to get too many cc's cause I'm afraid to vomit, but I also want to feel that something's there. I know this is a process to find your sweet spot, but do doctor's generally give everyone the same amount in their first fill?? How do you know how much you need when you first start?

I got my first fill today too! They had me drink a couple cups (the triangle kind from the Water cooler) over 10-15 min. before I could leave. No problem. I also had a Protein Drink and creamed Soup so far today. My doc says 24 hrs liquid only, then 2 days mushies and slowly add back solids. I look forward to see how the fill (2 cc) feels when I get back to normal food.< /p>

*dances with her first-fill buddies* How are ya'll feeling now? I still wont sleep on that side of my torso. I'm one of the weirdos who sleeps on my stomach, with one knee pulled up toward me. Kinda like a lower-case h. I hate not being able to sleep on both sides.

I feel some restriction, but not that much. I'm a little frustrated, though, because my portions have been cut almost in half. The only thing is, I eat half as much and am hungry sooner. Now I'm hungry nearly every 2 hours instead of every 3-4. Guhhh.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
